right Tronam... right and that is also true of many other oddly behaving vst's and vsti's.... chainer 'helps' make them better....

Closure? hahaha I don't want closure... I want info!

I live in the usa and still was happy to try a phone call to germany to try and catch up with Thomas... but sadly I don't speak german so it failed... I'm still amazed that some german speaking chainer fan has not tried to call him... oh well, it's not really on the top my latest 'amazed' list....

I am not unaware of the developements of XT and other similar tools but they really don't work as well... so it goes.

I agree, energyXT is brilliant... but I still use Chainer as a standalone VST host all of the time. Why? Stability and compatibility! It is amazingly robust! eXT's standalone mode and ASIO driver is still flaky in a variety of ways... from crackles/CPU spikes when moving VST user interfaces, to random p00fs or just strange unexpected behavior in general. But, much of this fades away when I load energyXT *inside* of Chainer. Best of both worlds.
My feelings exactly!

EnergyXT is wonderful. But, I do experience problems with it. Chainer, OTOH, is absolutely rock solid and handles VST plugins better than any other host I've tried. Plus, I'm slightly worried that EngeryXT is going to become so overloaded with full sequencer/audio features that it won't be a lean and mean plugin machine. I use Chainer both as a standalone host and as a plugin inside of Sonar 3 (after wrapping it). Then, I don't bother to wrap other VST/VSTi plugins for use in Sonar; I just use Chainer as my wrapper. I have total confidence that Chainer will handle anything I throw at it. Plus, it gives me layering, midi learn, wet/dry mixing, etc. Chainer is the best wrapper anywhere!

And then, when I need something really fancy, I go for the "best of both worlds" approach -- load up EnergyXT insider of Chainer inside of Sonar -- yeah!!! :D :D :D

James... right on... exactly why I'm bothering here to try and make contact with the developer... won't anyone else help????? wtf?

I mean, think ...if you love chainer as it is now, can you imagine what the 2.0 would be like to use????

[read back in this thread for a few of the features that were known to exist in the 2.0 beta]

please, please help try to find someone in germany who can contact Thomas, the developer of Chainer. Early in this thread there is WhoIs info links that will provide you a phone number for him... If you need to private message me and I'll send you the phone number.

thanks for posting :help:

Yes, I would like to hear from Thomas, too, of course.

I did send him an e-mail in late October (this past year) about an important feature that I had thought was missing from Chainer. Turns out that the feature is already there -- and works perfectly, of course :D -- and Thomas replied immediately, telling me how to use it!

It would be great to know what his current plans are, though. Chainer is gold as far as I'm concerned! :)

I had some email communication with Thomas more than one year ago (he was/is really a nice guy) and he always promised an update. I love Chainer and would love even more if there would finally be an update. I´m from Germany, but I want to accept his private sphere. I think we all have to accept that he isn´t in the business anymore, for whatever reason. That´s very sad, indeed. :(

Just because he's not posting on kvr doesn't mean he "isn´t in the business anymore". The website is up, the online shop is operational, I received a prompt and helpful support e-mail a couple of months ago, etc.

Yes, that´s it, some months ago - but now no more. Some months ago he also sometimes came here for supporting questions. But isn´t it strange that since 1,5 years no update came out, although he promised it already more than one year ago. Nevertheless, I´d be very happy if I would be wrong.

I wrote Thomas an email with the link to this thread and asking him if he´s still living, and he kindly replied the following (freely translated from german):

The future of Chainer is uncertain. Possibly there will be an update in the future. For the moment another software project has a higher priority.

And he told me, that he generally doesn´t respond anymore to the following questions in emails, forums and mainly telephone calls!!!:

- Questions for updates.
- Feature Requests (which will possibly be considered though).
- Questions for his well being (with rare exceptions *).

So, the good news is that I was wrong with my assumption that he´s out of business. The bad one is the uncertain future of Chainer. :(

P.S.: * Thank you, Thomas, for having done an exception. :)

Thanks for sharing the information. I wonder what this other software project may be :?:

That's pretty bad publicity for his company and his customer support standards

Andreas! THANK YOU... very good and nice of you to get back to us with that info....

that works for me...

and I can't be a judge of anyones personal life and needs... I know in my own there have been long periods when I was so overwhelemed by circumstances that I could not deal with other people very much.

I wish Thomas well in his 'other' projects, and HOPE he will return to Chainer sometime in the near future...

Thomas... if you read this thread I would like to offer you some help with the financial future of Chainer if that would help bring out 2.0 to the world.

Just PM me if you would like some help.

thanks again.
