LinPlug Spectral public beta for pc out

TBH I think this thing sounds great
I don't know why some ppl are complaining, the presets are cool. There are more than enough synths for bread and butter sounds.
I like the arp section a lot - very powerful stuff.
I do however get noises/clicks/long pauses between loading presets, but I guess it's a matter of my relic PC not being able to keep up the pace with Spectral or smth. And since it's beta, CPU optimisation will prolly (I hope) be dealt later on.
Agreed though: it needs a boatload of extra presets. The current ones are right up my alley, but I reckon they're not even scratching the surface in terms of what this synth can do

I hate it when copy/paste is disabled in licence entry fields.
Super mega bonus points though for having a selection of tunings right off the bat and easily selectable. That always cheers me up on sight.

Is Spectral as easy to work with as it looks? I have to wait for MAC version but I downloaded the manual.

Sound didnt exactly rock my socks off tbh, but anyway, in case the dev is following this thread, i found something that should probably be fixed because it has the potential to be very annoying.
Suppose youve created a sound that you like and want to save. The default save-path is into Documents so you save into there.
Problem: Since, after you saved a preset, the plugins built-in bank manager automatically (and inevitably) switches to the parent dir of the save folder, it will now be impossible to load any presets outside the folders contained in the parent dir of Documents, because the parent dir of Documents, which on Vista/7/8 is C:\Users\<Username>, only contains links to its subfolders but no 'backlink' to the harddrives. This means youll be stuck in <Username> with no way out, unless you shut down and restart the plugin so it comes up with the default/factory preset folder loaded again.
The same of course goes for all other folders as well, i.e. this is a general problem and not limited to a specific folder. The bank manager therefore needs to be restyled such that access to the harddrives is always possible, i.e. even if the parent dir of the currently loaded preset folder (which as i said becomes the root dir in the bank manager) does not itself contain a link to the drives.
(Right now you cant even get back to the Documents folder after you restart the plugin because the bank manager provides no means to get out of the root dir of the currently loaded preset folder at all. Except of course when you save a preset to another folder in another dir, but then youll be stuck in the parent dir of that folder until you restart.)

Um...that's strange 'cause I've changed the path for the preset directory to a different folder (got annoyed by the default demo factory bank loading) from the synth's setup menu and since then it always opens or saves in that said subfolder... or maybe I didn't understand exactly the nature of your problem...ENV1 wrote:Problem: Since, after you saved a preset, the plugins built-in bank manager automatically (and inevitably) switches to the parent dir of the save folder, it will now be impossible to load any presets outside the folders contained in the parent dir of Documents, because the parent dir of Documents, which on Vista/7/8 is C:\Users\<Username>, only contains links to its subfolders but no 'backlink' to the harddrives. Try to get out of the root dir of that folder and youll see the problem.idfpower wrote:...since then it always opens or saves in that said subfolder...
Because you cant. Youll be stuck in that root dir and therefore unable to load any presets outside the folder structure of that root dir.
That is the problem.

There is also a Spectral thread at the Linplug forum here:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 71#5524671
Looks like they ask for some presets too and it seems to be possible to receive a license as payment. Details at that thread.
BTW i just saved a patch in a new sub-folder inside the default presets folder (called "Sound Banks" found in the installtion directory) without a problem. The new folder appeared without a restart of the plugin. There is also an init patch in the "demo sounds" bank.
The copy/paste feature for the modules (oscillator, filter, envelope, etc.) is quite useful if you want to copy certain modules to another "layer" (actually each oscilator is a layer with it's own filter and envelopes while those layers could interact with FM).

I installed Spectral into my Vstplugins folder and the presets are inside there in folder called "Sound Banks" in a new "Spectral" folder. No problem saving my patches in a new sub-folder there.ENV1 wrote: Suppose youve created a sound that you like and want to save. The default save-path is into Documents so you save into there.

Why some parameters don't update live? I play chord with one hand and move knobs with other...like bit reduction or cents or semitones? When I play chord again I hear change, but not during I hold the chord down. Is this bug?
