It seems that we're more arguing the definition of 'perfection' here rather than getting to what is actually perfect. It's highly subjective whichever way you look at it, and so trying to agree on something is going to be near impossible.

Perhaps the thread title should be "Songs or tracks that you find perfect"?

I agree, I see striving for perfection as an impediment as well. It takes me out of the moment and into the future, which is like trying to jump over your own shadow.

And that's not my only reason. Perfection is an abstract, man-made concept with no equivalent in nature. Nature doesn't produce things like perfectly-formed square bricks. A perfect world would be static, and nature is always on the move, like an experiment that never stops.
It's a word. Like I said, words are not sufficient. You just went to make a modifier, 'perfect' in 'a perfect square', the <definition of> perfect*. Your "impediment" is tied to a concept I wouldn't tie myself to. You're forcing words to suit you, so you'll take 'striving for perfection' as 'instead of in the moment it's into the future'. You don't HAVE to do that! That's just some words. Why, how is perfection NOT moment-by-moment? *This is cart before the horse stuff.

Why is 'the future vs. the present' an obstacle? Why would I do that, rather than attend to the thing at hand? That {TIME} seems like a matter of chops more than anything else, and in terms of a zen!
Interesting! Again (like many times before), I get the feeling that we mean the same thing but express it differently. Like you said: words. :)

Rather than to persuade, I think the ideas of it are worth talking about.

Everything that post-punk power pop was supposed to be, this is. Just perfect. Perfect guitars. Perfect production.

Perfect vocals and vocal production. Brian Wilson had to re-record this because the Republican in the Beach Boys wouldn't let him re-do the original. And it shows to such great effect - his voice has changed since he was in his 20s. It's now a man's voice and he sings with all the weight of his years. It's a voice and song of wistful melancholy, so beautiful I near weep every time I hear it. Van Dyke Parks' best lyrics.

Mutt Lange. Guitars. Drums. Enough said. Me and my wife's "song".

Big Star - Big Black Car

Perfect.

I agree with Sendy in that perfection is indeed a flexible thing, so I'm going with
this one on the basis that it achieves exactly what it's trying to do with exquisite precision and economy. Not an ounce of fat to be heard.

I say keep the debate about perfection rolling, but nowt wrong with posting a track while you're at it. :ud:

This song is like watching an entire universe being born, expand and grow, and then die in glorious cacophony. Heard it live before I got the album, my feet mired in the cold mud and my head shooting sparks. So joyous and sad and ominous and caring and all-encompassing. I've listened to it a hundred times and still can't believe it even exists.

Yeah, I love that track too!

Another "perfect" track I'm listening to a lot recently:
One of my favorite albums this year!

Oh, Tim Hecker has a new album? I only know Ravedeath, but I really enjoyed it, although I can't listen to it all the time... ;)

Gotta check it out, thanks for the heads-up.

I thought most people would understand that was implicit anyway.
