No, it isn't. It's what a real player does pretty much all the timeMarkus808 wrote:That's one solution, but keeping my foot on the pedal for minutes is a bit tiresome, isn't it?!EvilDragon wrote:Use sustain pedal?

Yep, StackIndex modulates PanMod (Stereo Spread) and TuneMod (Detune)paterpeter wrote:So Stacking + VoiceMap modulating pan + maybe voice detune? Or is there another/better way to spread the stacked voices?4damind wrote:Stackingpaterpeter wrote:Please don't hit me, but the oscillator is purely mono, right? Correct. It is a basic and essential requirement for any decent musician to have severe masochistic and self-destructive tendencies.EvilDragon wrote:It's what a real player does pretty much all the time

It's the human condition. Might as well mirror that in software#rob wrote:severe masochistic and self-destructive tendencies.

Just used a Signal Analyzer to compare the Diva Supersaw to the resl one like in this thesis from Adam Szabo:4damind wrote:I think somebody still posted this video. Comparison of Diva vs JP8080 and Diva is very close
http://www.nada.kth.se/utbildning/grukt ... _10131.pdf
I calculated the frequency ratio of the 7 Saws in relation to the central Saw (like in that thesis) and those are identical to the values for the real JP-80x0.
Here are the frequency ratio values for Diva, you could compare them to the thesis if you like:
0.890, 0.937, 0.980, 1.000 (center), 1.020, 1.062, 1.107
Like in that thesis this was done at maximum Detune and Mix (= "Multi" in Diva) amounts. Also the ratio of the amplitudes of the Saws seems to behave like in the real thing while the central Saw is a bit more quiet than the others (like also mentioned in the thesis).
Soundwise the Diva Supersaw indeed seems to nail the real thing. That Roland Supersaw is quite special and i really like it's character.

Hehehe, please also check out the other waveforms. Much has been written, said and done about Supersaw, but part of the exercise was to also nail the other waveforms

Hi Urs,Urs wrote:Hehehe, please also check out the other waveforms. Much has been written, said and done about Supersaw, but part of the exercise was to also nail the other waveforms
indeed those other waveforms are very interesting too. Just started using a signal Analyzer with some of those too while twaeking the related knobs for the shape.
Some very cool stuff indeed and not emulated in another synths so far AFAIK (for example JP6K "only" emulates the Supersaw but that one very good).
As already mentioned the new Uhbie filter seems to work perfectly with the new digital oscillators, at least for my taste.
Those new modules make Diva even more useful than it was already and the combination of the new ocillator with different filter modules is quite unique.

Hi!
Found a problem when selecting the saw waveform of DIGITAL OSC. It seems that the sensitive area of the Saw button is not exactly its screen area. When clicking in the lower part of the button what's selected is not Saw but Tri. Happens in Logic 9, OSX 10.8.5.

Urs, will your "weekend project" share some of this JP stuff or is it more the opposite, that some ideas from your weekend project are now a part of Diva?

Thanks Ingo
Well, the "hardest nut to crack" was the feedback oscillator. Which is so complicated, it only runs monophonic in the JP80x0. One can only perfectly model it with excessive effort as it features a strange galore of hard clipping and waveshaping stages. I think we came pretty close, but a final verdict probably relies on whether it's "good enough" or not.
The other waveforms were expanded in various ways, e.g. they usually only have a single control parameter. We then added a second dimension to it. If however the additional control parameter is set to its default value in Diva, that waveform should be pretty spot on.

I don't have my JP set up right now, and I can't find the files for the "technical demo" I made of it's oscillators, but from memory you nailed the feedback oscillator pretty much spot on. The aliasing, the wailing beast noises, the way the changes to feedback pitch take a few moments to propagate along the waveform. Hearing it polyphonic is downright spooky in more ways than one
The fact that you can do sync on it blows my mind
The resonance on the noise waveform, I seem to remember on the JP you got a more stable volume on the resultant sine wave. I could be wrong here, but it feels like it swings too wildly between minimum and maxumum volume. I think it would also be more musically useful if it was more stable in volume.

Only now got the chance to quickly demo the new modules.. Congrats urs! Seems like I can now replicate everything I liked about the JP8K with diva
The feedback osc is a beauty! (And now with microtuning

This whole Diva project - gradually accumulating all the best bits of everything and adding new tweaks just for good measure - is such a gift to us all. Great stuff U-He. The sound designers are going to go nuts with the new kit in 1.3.

Some help please Urs, I've installed the new beta so i could give it a whirl and now my original Diva isn't seen at all by reaper.
Is it possible to have both installed or do i have to have 1 or the other ?
