Exactly. My opinion is always right.ghettosynth wrote:I'm sure that some of you will struggle to accept this, but, in some cases, many in fact, sometimes one side is convinced of their "righteousness" because they are simply right.
What are the psychological roots behind the "X vs Y" arguments?

There is nothing wrong behind the "X vs Y" arguments. It just means: "which product (among similars) you prefer and why". Now, since human nature tends to be miserable, most of the time these kind of discussions become "I am cooler than you (because I use/buy/support this and that)" and such.

Sometimes we are talking about ideas; sometimes we are talking about opinions; or an opinion about an idea (or a person).ghettosynth wrote:sometimes one side is convinced of their "righteousness" because they are simply right.
In an analog vs digital argument, there is typically at least one person that is not interested in a conversation but has a dogma to stick to religiously. Nothing else can be true. The argument reduced to 'all hardware is superior' appears but the absurdity of the position can't be recognized because all is lost, desperate face-saving moves now appear.
That is kind of like a tribalism in certain ways.
Sometimes sticking to a factual argument seems dogmatic to someone that doesn't want it to be seen as such, in favor of their interest in... something else.

Well, I don't see that. I see one thing that seems kind of pointless, which wound up being not even much of a disagreement: 'this antagonism isn't restricted to X vs Y topics' finally; which didn't seem like anybody's actual position to be countered in the first place. That becomes tiresome to me after a while (when done to me) but my filter is different than yours, I didn't see anything real personal there.hibidy wrote: What I see are people jumping into these threads to BELITTLE those who started it/respond to it.

So which is better, "X vs Y" topics or "best X of the year" topics? And what was the best one this year?
