Although there doesn't seem to be anything stopping me from just waiting a few months before I upgrade. I could just wait until the features I want arrive then buy my 12 months.
exactly... I can even see waiting some months after features I want are released to make sure there is plenty of time for them to get solid.

Normally, I do not mind buying an upgrade as soon as it is out because it does not cost me more in the long run if it is buggy... I try it and if it is not ready I wait and eventually it is sorted out. Bitwig has given me motivation to wait and not update immediately because they put a 12 month limit on bugfixes. It is no longer a no brainer to update when there is a new release but to wait until I am happy with it as is... because there is no longer a guarantee that it will eventually get fixed (without paying more money)

I voted "Yes"

I think we'll see Bitwig start to pick up the development pace a bit quicker. I'm thinking these "prices" that people are saying are so high will probably go into the hiring of more staff.

This could mean hiring "specialists" who would bring their expertise to Bitwig. That's good especially if they hire people who could do circuit modelling stuff and so on.

Who is going to put cash down for an unknown software product? What if 2.x is a bug riddled mess? What if they don't introduce anything great in this 'machinegun' strategy? What if the features they do add are buggy and/or poorly implemented? Certainly they are already lowering the bar (modular environment) and omitting promised features so I for one won't be blindly trusting. Maybe they will make good? I certainly hope so but I want to see the evidence before I pay (again).

(joke on)
Q: What if they succeed?
A: That will make some unhappy.
(joke off)

I look at my watch and we are on january 20 here, Bitwig Studio 2 is announced for february 28, I think playing to frighten ourselves one more month is useless. There will be a demo, let's try it extensively and decide afterwards. Good night!

There will be a demo... and you can try for yourself... just like any software. Beyond that, every software is unsure. There are what-ifs for every scenario. If 2.0 is bug-riddled mess, don't pay for it...

I think just wait and see. If one door closes another one opens :D There is always alternative software in the audio industry. Of course I'll not upgrade. But I'll wait and see how good/bad the actual resonance to this pricing model is. Maybe there is some price drop in 2 or 3 years or another licensing model.
