What an unusual thread. I'll respond according to the principle of charity.
1. It would be nice to be able to set a default scroll behavior. I change the option in every edit. I actually agree with OP.
2. It's ridiculous to call audio editing a nightmare in Waveform, but small things could be improved. Especially when you're zoomed out, it *is* tricky to use the top bar or select an option on the top bar, like bungle said. When I switched from Ableton, I was confused that the playback and editing bar were the same, that you couldn't select space on the track, and that you had to do everything using the editing bar instead of selecting. But I adapted and I'd say I can edit audio at roughly the same pace. I just didn't understand the Tracktion reasoning at first.
3. I've hardly experienced graphical lag. Maybe occasionally and very minor.
4. I don't use loops much but I'll keep that tip in mind.
5. The midi editor can be pinned to the screen though.
I don't think bungle gave Waveform a very thorough testing. Should have sat on the knee jerk reaction.
Tried returning to Tracktion or whatever it is now called

Just on your 1st point, I've set-up a custom template that has my layout and setting the way I want. When I start a new project, I just select my custom template.

I have templates too, but I think I missed that option when making them. Good idea!
