I've been finding similar limitations. My 7 day trial has ended and I don't know if it was just me, but alot of the midi mapping I expected I either couldn't find or simply wasn't available.
As well as changing the banks of parameters, it seemed like each parameter knob needed to be mapped separately, so instead of 8 hardware knobs controlling 32 parameters across 4 banks, I would need 32 hardware knobs.
And it seemed while there was a midi mappable knob for scrolling up and down presets, selecting which vst/types of sounds in browser would need to be done with a mouse anyway.
And were there even midi mappable buttons to switch between your 8 instruments?
In the limited time I had with it it felt very lacking compared to the functionality when coupled with the advance keyboards.
Is there a list or can someone explain what is midi mappable and what is not? How many knobs/buttons I would need on a midi controller?
Since VIP dropped I dreamt of having that kind of functionality with any controller but I fail to see how this could dramatically improve workflow unless I'm seriously missing something!
Cheers

On a plus side I need to mention that standalone VIP scales nicely with Windows scaling, so all the plugins hosted inside it get 150% size on my 4K monitor and work fine.

Pretty awesome that they're giving this away for MPKmini owners, considering the software costs about as much as the controller itself.

It would be nice if they would enable UI scaling when using it as a plugin working in the DAW.DJ Warmonger wrote:On a plus side I need to mention that standalone VIP scales nicely with Windows scaling, so all the plugins hosted inside it get 150% size on my 4K monitor and work fine.

Has anyone used this with a non-"VIP ready" controller yet? They advertise it working with "any midi controller," but I'm curious as to how seamless it becomes in that scenario. If you have to individually map every knob/pad/fader for each instrument, then it wouldn't really save much time over doing the same thing with each of the instruments themselves.
FWIW I had an issue with the latest version of Reaper 5.50 x64 and first launch. When I scanned my plugins to load up maps for VIP, the plugin crashed and subsequently crashed Reaper as well.
So just to make sure I didn't have any problems, I uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Then I loaded it up in standalone mode outside of Reaper, then re-scanned everything and it was fine. So for anyone using Reaper with this, I'd probably suggest doing standalone mode for the first launch to get everything loaded up.

On the flip side of this, I have three Akai/M-Audio controllers, an MPD24, an original MPK Mini, and an M-Audio Ozonic, and none of them qualify me.Bug Music wrote:So when I purchased my M-Audio Oxygen a while back it did not come with VIP.
I logged into my M-Audio account last night and saw that VIP 3 was listed as a download under my products !
Very cool of M-Audio/AKAI/inMusic !![]()
I mean they could have offered it for sale with a discount (which was honestly what I expected), but to include it totally free on previous purchases was very cool indeed !
Thank you M-Audio/AKAI !![]()

I find the Ozonic particularly annoying because it's still an awesome controller but M-Audio wants to act like they never made it or something.

It might be worth shooting an email to their customer service. Make it a point to say you've been a loyal Akai customer for a while and you feel slighted or something.ghettosynth wrote:On the flip side of this, I have three Akai/M-Audio controllers, an MPD24, an original MPK Mini, and an M-Audio Ozonic, and none of them qualify me.Bug Music wrote:So when I purchased my M-Audio Oxygen a while back it did not come with VIP.

I just tried it with my Novation Impulse. I must admit that the GUI confused the hell out of me though, and i found no way to map my controller either... i clicked MIDI learn in the upper right corner, but it didn't do anything when i moved a knob on my controller. I'm pretty sure i did something wrong though, because i didn't quite get the concept either. Didn't show all my instrument plugins either.Backsnack wrote:Has anyone used this with a non-"VIP ready" controller yet? Did you have VIP scan your plugins folder to find compatible instruments and effects first?chk071 wrote:I just tried it with my Novation Impulse. Settings > Plugin Manger
Add your plugin folder(s) down at the bottom left panel. As the scan populates the list, instruments and effects that have built-in maps will load up with organge highlighted check boxes next to them. Others will have midi control maps that will be downloadable in the column with the download icon.
Also, go to
Settings > Audio/Midi Settings
Make sure your midi controller is highlighted and that your audio interface is selected.
Also, when doing the plugin scan, I would recommend doing it standalone mode outside of your DAW. I had an issue with it crashing when I did this loaded as a plugin with Reaper.

Yep, i did the plugin scan, and, of course, set up my plugin folder before that. I also set my audio/MIDI settings in the standalone, but, as i mentioned, at one point, it crashed, and Windows showed me a window where i was prompted to input my admin password, because Automap wanted to start itself. Not sure what happened there... after that, the EXE of the VIP standalone was gone, and, shortly after, was in the plugin folder again, but, it couldn't be started anymore, and the EXE was 0 bytes...
I still wonder why i couldn't do anything with my controller in the VIP plugin though. But, as i mentioned, maybe i did something wrong, or the settings were messed up because of the things i described.
