Hah, I was confused not to see the "Demo" word in there, Downloading now. Thanks.

Ok, just tried this one. It is an amazing tool. So many sounds you can have with it. It does have some bugs though. One of the bugs is that when you turn the effect off in S1 v3 and then back on, the sound is not the same as it was. But when you touch one of the knobs, the sound goes back to what it was before.

Another bug is that sometimes you can have some weird clicks that are not really related to the effect itself. But I see it is still in beta.

I tried the demo too. but to me it was just a rate/bit crusher. what should I look at that makes DAC cool and unique? Granted I didnt spend a ton of time with it. Let me know what to try. :phones:

its effect is more apparent in a mix

but what it does is not quite 'rate/bitcrush'

it rate/bit-crushes, encodes it to one of several different primitive forms of compression used by old samplers (µ/a-law pcm or ADPCM), then unpacks it again, converts it to analogue again, runs the crude (although top of the line at the time) filters used to muffle some of the worst of the artifacts in the old samplers, and runs it through a simple drive module (if you like)

it modulates the sound an interesting way. gives you more interesting dimensions of crunch than you could get with a straight crusher plugin—a sort of 'glisten' is all i can think of to describe it—and makes it "stick out" or "cut through" more, according to a lot of people. especially favoured, for whatever reason, on drum samples.

now: it's MORE interesting in the full TAL-SAMPLER, because between the decode and the analogue conversion is the pitch/speed resampler to make the same sample hit all these different notes, that leads to even MORE sonic interest.

With a nice new GUI, preset browser with categories, undo/redo... Patrick is truly astonishing. He never stops improving his plugins.

TAL is legit sh!t.

I know it might not be entirely his thing, but I would love to see Patrick's take on old-school FM synths, I would buy that in a heartbeat. TAL Sampler sounds so gorgeous and I would love to have that flavor of FM synthesis in my toolbox too.

Absolutely, or maybe adding vintage FM/analog to TAL Sampler for a SY99 kind of sound.

Excellent idea.

Thanks for the update Patrick. I've never used TAL DAC really as I use Sampler so much but will def give it a revisit.

It's of course not from TAL, but it's as TAL as it get's for the moment:

and it's free
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

I hope the guys at Sonicbits are quietly developing a payware version of Exakt-lite possibly called Exakt-Pro or something like that. I love the layout and the GUI on that synthie, really useful freebie.

heh, I prefer the old UI I guess :P Oh well

Thank you for this. I really like FM and this is exactly what I would like to see in an FM synth. It does need some more modulations but definitely a really good start.

I also learned in this thread that some of may favorite TAL stuff got some nice updates. Sweet.

I think I do too, but I don't dislike the new GUI either.

Would rather have seen the text entering feature:
Another thing I'd like to be able to do (TAL Sampler and TAL-DAC) is to enter values with the keyboard. It can be quite fiddly to set a exact value (sample rate 27777 for example) by turning a plugin knob holding down the Ctrl key (or Maschine knob holding down Shift). If you could double-click or right-click on the plugin knob to open a numeric text field, then it would be fast and easy to enter exact values.
