Was also going to suggest Bjork, glad to see plenty of love here already. Placebo and Arcade Fire also good calls. Hmm... Looking for bands where the later albums weren't "strictly better" but instead were similar quality or went in another direction. Have some post-rock:
Mogwai - Young Team
And So I Watch You From Afar - (s/t)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F # A # ∞

Dark Side Of The Moon
That was really Roger Waters's debut? The whole thing is his idea?

DSotM isn't PF's or Roger's debut. Roger wrote songs from very early on, but they weren't so dreary. 'Julia Dream' is an example.harryupbabble wrote: Tue Jan 01, 2019 5:35 pm Dark Side Of The Moon

Dark Side Of The Moon was the idea of a guy called sHush, who used to hang around here on KvR too for a while. he was quite prolific and very handsome.harryupbabble wrote: Tue Jan 01, 2019 5:35 pm Dark Side Of The Moon

No. It was Floyds sixth album (iirc). Roger Waters was on all the previous albums. Their first was released in 67. DSOTM came out in 73.harryupbabble wrote: Tue Jan 01, 2019 5:35 pm Dark Side Of The Moon

Before Dark Side Of The Moon, Roger Waters was just another member of the band?
But with the Dark Side Of The Moon, Roger became THE lyricist and the main driving force?
David Gilmour was "reacting" to Roger Waters? This means that Roger would do something and THEN David Gilmour would add music to what Roger Waters already did? Most of the time?
Question marks there.

no question marks
there is no argument to be made for dorm being a solo or debut album

I've never heard of that Julia Dream song yet. Yes, pretty much the whole Dark Side Of The Moon is dreary.Bombadil wrote: Tue Jan 01, 2019 5:39 pmRoger wrote songs from very early on, but they weren't so dreary. 'Julia Dream' is an example.
Immediately after listening to that album, to temporary erase the memory or that "such substance but it's kind of depressing" feeling, maybe people would listen to a song like below. But I myself would just play speed scrabble. Speaking of which, I'm off to do just that. Okay bye.

yeah momentary lapse of reason, was their first studio album without waters.thecontrolcentre wrote: Tue Jan 01, 2019 5:45 pmNo. It was Floyds sixth album (iirc). after the final cut, which alongside the wall, if any "pf" albums could be said to be waters solo pieces its those.
but even the wall would sound tremendously different with gilmours guitar, so again, not really...

Wright isn't on The Wall or Final Cut, afaik. And he wrote the music for my two fave songs on DSotM: Us an Them, and Great Gig in the Sky.
