Funny that some people on the Steiny forum say that Windows 10 is the most reliable Windows anyway. Contary to some of the haters out there, which claim exactly the opposite.

On the net, it's mostly mainstream. That's why i wondered. Loads of people in the "real world" who appreciate Windows 10. Unsurprisingly, as the net has always been a hoard of oddballs of all couleur.

I've downgraded my two win10 to win7. Too much waste of time tweeking win10 after updates.
Lack of support isn't a problem. If, and that's a BIG if, there's a non solvable problem i just reinstall using a backup image.
PS. I hope you are aware of the fact that all these security updates, the treath isn't as severe as they make them to be. At least for those of you that aren't computer illiterate.

Can we at least have some honesty. In the article that you link the methods for "disabling" Windows 10 updates all have severe problems and limitations. Many of them require risky measures such as modifying your registry. Before you say "anyone could do that" many people don't know what a registry is and shouldnt touch it. I make no apology for calling you out.

Windows 10 is a joke. Cortana, forced updates, Candy crush...I just want to be left alone to work! I don't need this garbage. I was right to avoid Steinberg. Not that I could download Cubase anyway; last time I looked Steinberg wouldn't allow downloading Cubase in Australia. I was meant to go to a shop? Please, it's not 1995.

Allow me to recommend/add Ardour (which Mixbus is based on) or LMMS (for an interface friendlier from those coming of a FL Studio interface) for other types of DAWs as well, there's a youtube channel: that covers those tools well in detail and how they've improved or faced some challenges, there is now more variety to choose from than ever in Linux!

On-topic. This is pretty much expected from a MS product, I believe Pro Tools did the same but many people didn't cared anyway. I believe W7 will receive the same treatment as XP and be left alone in the dust so, I wonder if their other plugins (Halion, Groove Agent, etc.) will work on earlier versions than 10 but I doubt it, seems to be a "go all out" decision which isn't too crazy these days, so nothing that really surprises me. I kinda expect Ableton or Presonus to follow later.

I don't understand this constant rush of axing support for not-even-old OSes. Apple have been a really bad example of this and it's so sad to see other companies doing the same.

Absolutely not comparable to Apple. E.g., Cubase 10 requires Mac OS X Sierra or higher. Sierra was released in the second half of 2016.

That's an interesting point actually.. That probably tells you more about human laziness really because changing an OS takes more legwork.

Just trying to help but to be honest, I have never had a problem with Win 10. Never had to teak after updates and none of the stuff you are complaining about. Updates never seem to impede the performance of my pc or my DAW.

I can only urge anyone seriously considering Linux for audio work to try it out. Especially if you're not a pro at Linux, or at computing in general. I'll happily see you all running back to Microsoft or Apple.

Exactly this - The future products may still work fine, just if they don't and you contact them they'll probably just go: 'Soz dunno mate we can't provide support for it'

So if you're happy with your existing OS then stick with it, and for safety to your DAW version too
