Lie down on the floor and take cover!
I miss the rough and raw electronic music with balls like the band "THE KLF" from the 90s and not the cheesy chipmunk "E

That's fair enough man...bmanic wrote: Sun Mar 08, 2020 2:48 pm Indeed. I totally get you. I mean, I have no problem with screaming vocals and tons of distortion (I'm a huge Meshuggah fan and like that whole genre!). There's just something about the example that doesn't give me any vibes at all. There's nothing I can get invested in. No rhythm, no production values, no melody, no harmony that isn't downright corny in my opinion.
Again we are back to the whole subjective thing again, which is all good btw. Like yourself though, I love heavy guitars and vox. And while you say, that H.EXE is a bit corny. I’d say the same about Meshugga and such bands.
Yes, it’s technically very well executed but it’s bland and contrived (imo). A lot of that type of metal stuff sounds cheesy to me as H.EXE sounds corny to you. All their aggression is through 'technique' there’s no real balls. Mix wise, you could say their stuff is great too… But I like more vintage or lo fi stuff. I can’t stand those clicky bass drums and indulgent geeetar solos. Early Suicidal (first album) knew how to do cool solos…
I mean, if you compare Meshuggah, etc to any good D-beat band they just feel so tame and over produced. And those D-Beat boys can play as well too.
Also, a lot (not all) of similar metal bands don’t sing about anything real or interesting (to me at least). Alot of it is esoteric nonsense… I mean, why is that Meshuggah guy singing about the Demiurge? Is he a Gnostic or somthing? It just comes across as a bit pretentious (to me anyway).
The Impalers fast and heavy as fek without being ‘contrived’. I like the fact that the production is lo fi too.
To me, lots of distorted and layered guitars doesn’t equal aggressive music… Aggressive music comes from real aggression, heart and folks who are really pissed off.
Not trying to insult anyone here into that type of ‘production metal’ it’s just not my bag. I’m more of punk/metal guy. My point is, it’s easy to find faults with stuff that you don’t like. But at the end of the day, everyone likes what the y like and if you enjoy it then that's all that really matters.

I sometimes listen to some Ed Rush mixes, from early to mid 2000's (I think he was the best there), and, he often played that track. Nice and hypnotic (and dark, which I like).Robmobius wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2020 11:16 pm I miss Darkside DnB of the late 90s... In general, I think that the early 2000's to mid/late 2000's were a great era for all kinds of eletronic music. After that, it all became shit somehow.

Absolutely mate... Not sure what happened after that everything started to slide downhill.chk071 wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 9:19 am In general, I think that the early 2000's to mid/late 2000's were a great era for all kinds of eletronic music. After that, it all became shit somehow.![]()
Ed and Nico invented tech step!
Early Ed + Rush and Optical were great they really set the bar. Production wise their mixes were so powerful and still annihilate most of the modern mixes out there today!
Dom + Roland was another great producer... His early stuff was amazing (Industry Album). I've not heard all that much of his recent stuff I like at all.
I miss the days of early darkside and techstep.
