First of all it sounds lovely, however for the big wide ambient stuff Sonsig by Relab sounds incredibly close with its QRS mode.

I'm mostly interested in the Freeze function, so hopefully Relab will implement that eventually!

I demoed Sonsig a while back and seem to remember it was one which had an ‘expensive sound’. What do you think would be its competition / closest to it (and along that line)?vitocorleone123 wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 11:49 pmSonsigA is $50 on sale and I’d vote for it being the best reverb at that price or lower. At $99 there’s more competition and it hangs right in there but probably not #1.chagzuki wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 11:39 pm Relab sure know their reverbs, but they're pricey in the current market, e.g. Sonsig is nice but it lacks features compared to the competition, and there's so much out there to choose from.

It seems you are slightly confusing things here - I assume with "QRS mode" you refer to the "QRS Render Mode", however these buttons do not affect the actual reverb algos:woodsdenis wrote: Sun Nov 19, 2023 10:47 pm First of all it sounds lovely, however for the big wide ambient stuff Sonsig by Relab sounds incredibly close with its QRS mode.
The actual algos are selected by switching the "size" and according to Relab, the smaller ones are Quantec-inspired (while the bigger ones are 224-inspired) and I hear a vast difference between 6 and 7, while 1-6 and 7-10 respectively, all seem to have a similar character to me.RENDER MODE (QRS, 224, Rev-A)
These three render modes apply different
processing accuracy and filtering,
changing the reverb’s overall character.
The QRS mode has a low-fi, desirable
character with a steep high frequency
cutoff.
So I think even with the 224 or Rev-A mode selected you can get a Quantec type of sound when using the Sizes 1-6 while 7-10 are somewhat Lexiconish, regardless of the selected render mode.
It's actually not too diffrent from Valhalla Vintage Verb in that regard, where the algos affect the basic character of the reverb while the three colours switch between three different render-modes.

Based on list prices:macmuse wrote: Sat Dec 02, 2023 4:43 pmI demoed Sonsig a while back and seem to remember it was one which had an ‘expensive sound’. TaiChi Lite and Acon Verberate 2 on the $100 end
Savant reverbs
Arturia reverbs
Valhalla VV and Room on the $50 end
Baby Audio Crystalline
DDMG MagicVerb
LX480 Essentials
MicroDigital Reverberator
and more
Someone would be in great shape for reverbs with TaiChi Lite and SonsigA and maybe something like the MicroDigital Reveberator for additional character (one of my favorite inexpensive reverbs).
I think TaiChi full on sale is the absolute best $100 all around reverb.

SonsigA sounds fantastic for special fx sound. But obiously artificial.
The reverb does not preserve the attack of the orginal signal like 480L, Seventh Heaven, Savant Quantum Room or UltraReverb does.
In a way SonsigA is great and more similar to Eventide Blackhole or Valhalla Supermassivefor massive non natural space.
Do the QRS have similar binaural sound like the Savant Quantum Room ?

Never said it changed the algos just the sound in relation to the big wide ambient stuff.YMMVjens wrote: Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:57 pmIt seems you are slightly confusing things here - I assume with "QRS mode" you refer to the "QRS Render Mode", however these buttons do not affect the actual reverb algos:woodsdenis wrote: Sun Nov 19, 2023 10:47 pm First of all it sounds lovely, however for the big wide ambient stuff Sonsig by Relab sounds incredibly close with its QRS mode.
