If you mean the two controller "wings", then yes. The Legion Go comes with a puck-like disc that the right controller can sit in, where it can function as a vertical mouse with lots of controls

My question wasn't directed towards a mouse replacement but I think it does/provides what I want. The device is very tempting. Defo on my watch list. I see the advantages for my needs.

Those are not the kinds of people we like to see at our gigs - wankers, one and all - although I do a bit of air-bass in one of our songs, just for shits and giggles.

Bones' machine obviously takes the cake in comparison, but I'm surprised that before this thread turned into whatever it is now, nobody mentioned DeX. I think it's great. It's not the best, but it is pretty awesome, especially compared to an iPhone/iPad can do.

Funny because I just found out about these devices and instantly wondered if they could run FL studio or any other DAW.

I suppose it’s cool to test out and play around with, probably better for getting some ideas down when away from home or studio. But my reasoning is since I already have a strong laptop for home studio, it would be really pointless to get this in an attempt to do the same thing.

Of course it’s meant for gaming, but if they theoretically built it to be a super portable laptop at 10” and a super minimal keyboard + mousepad along with a better cooling system, then it would be a must buy.

Yeah. The Samsung thing. Difference is 10 years ago your Windows phone sucked ass in regards to both hardware and "Windows Mobile". And not prime ass, either. Shit, swamp ass. Comparable to an iPad from 4 years ago.

Dex is pretty nice though. Not Surface/Workstation Tablet nice, but better than having multiple devices, and the hardware and software is there in regards to performance and availability.

That's what makes the Legion Go so f**king good - it's really just a Windows 11 PC that works at least as well as most high-end laptops. Sitting here now, replying to you, feels exactly like it has on any other computer I've ever owned. In fact, it feels like it runs Studio One slightly better than my last couple of lappies, probably due to optimisations made to the system for gaming.

Not if it could replace your laptop. I originally bought it just to test the waters, to see how close it was to being usable on stage. It only took me a couple of days to realise that it was the real deal. It took me a couple of weeks more to realise that I was never going to switch my laptop on again, so I will be selling it.

The cooling is excellent. It doesn't get as hot as my RoG Flow Z13 and neither does it's PSU. You don't need a keyboard on the go. In tablet mode the on-screen keyboard works great. At home, as you can see from the photo in my first post, it's hooked up to the 27" curved monitor that work paid for during Covid, a mechanical keyboard I've had for years and the mouse I always use with every computer, as well as my music-related peripherals, of course - 2 x controllers and my I/O device.

The big thing for us on stage is the laptop screen is a distraction and a crutch, so having something that you can't really see too well will be good for our live shows, I think. It will make us concentrate a bit harder.

Also, I f**king hate trackpads and we weren't using a keyboard with my previous 2-in-1s anyway. The good thing about a Surface-like PC is that you can lay it down at an acute angle so it's out of the way but still easy to work with.

No, I get it, you're about 2hrs away from duct-taping a fleshlight to your Legion, if you haven't already. DeX wasn't a suggestion aimed at you, but more the "I have my MacBook Pro for this...My iPad for this..and my iPhone for this!" Limpwristers.

Fair enough and I completely agree. Convergence/consolidation makes the most sense for consumers, but the least for greedy vendors. I really f**king hate smartphones, though, and phones generally. The biggest motivator for me to retire is to be able to live without a f**king phone.

But seriously? You use one device for everything? You don't own a phone?

Personally, I like having an iPad, even if I don't strictly need one. iPad + Apple Pencil beats taking notes with pen and paper, especially with handwriting to text conversion. And the iPad makes a truly awesome pdf reader. It also works as a control surface for Studio One with the Studio One RC app. And it works as a monitor extension or as a drawing tablet with the Apple Pencil in Photoshop and Illustrator, through Sidecar on the Mac. Sometimes you just need multiple physical objects working together to perform tasks better than trying to cram everything on one device and flip back and forth. And when you have an iPad and a Mac, the iPad generally can become whatever other object you need at the time, and interact directly with the Mac, with no setup needed.
