Antelope Audio Plugins

What's your own experience with them, bmanic?

It goes back about a decade. Betrayal, deceit and down right fraud? Let's put it that way. If you go back in history a bit you'll find that time when almost all major retailers refused to sell their interfaces. They got in big trouble.

Maybe things are better now.. I admit that I got stung and have a hard time forgiving and forgetting.

Oh and let's not even go all the way to Aardvark days. Thanks to them i found RME so i guess I owe them that.

I guess they must have improved a lot... I believe everything I read about Aardvark and Antelope, and yet my own (relatively recent - August '23) experiences are quite different, to say the least.

For starters: I made a mistake - I had purchased a plugin-bundle ($69), even though I already had the lot of them because it wasn't clear to me that I also already had the afx2daw plugin because it was included in that bundle. So I messaged their support explaining my error and within a day they reimbursed me; no further questions asked.

I also had some initial setup issues (can't remember the dtails anymore) but on the same day (iIrc) a support guy established a remote connection on my machine and quickly changed a few things to make it work.

Things like that - questions I asked (after my purchase) they answered swiftly, friendly and competently.

I won't claim my Zen Q was absolutely free of any issues, but it's a great and so far reliable tool nonetheless which I basically bought for peanuts. (I purchased it while one promo was running (2x Edge Note and Bitwig Studio for free) and received it after it had ended and another promo (all 90 plugins included) had started and they honoured both.)

(And I also recently received a free bundle of 8 native plugins.)

I think a bit part of the issues people had with them in the past is because Igor might not have much of a clue on how to run a business. I'm not sure there ever was any malice involved.


By the way: Just now they started shipping their so far least expensive (USB-)interface Zenith 2 which is quite the bargain by the look of it.

synchronization", or something like that.

Sure, that is what they are calling it, like to sync your system at a sample level, I think.

...and perhaps they are focusing on that, but as well, they
do make some lovely looking interfaces.

This makes sense to me, I would like to try their products some time.

Don't get me wrong, their hardware stuff is phenomenal, when it works. They really do have some of the best converters in the business. Nobody sane would refute that. But the customer experience, back when they started, got down right ugly.

That really does sound like they've righted the ship. I've gone all the way RME since forever and compensated for the slightly clinical sound presentation with other AD/DA + Headphone amp solutions. Maybe if all my stuff breaks in the next 10 years I may consider Antelope Audio again.. maybe. Once bitten, twice shy.. etc etc. Yes, I have trust issues sometimes.

Also worth noting that back then they didn't have any bargain stuff. We are talking serious money here and the type of customer support that should come with serious equipment (and usually does in this industry, though not always!).

I am super grateful for my little PreSonus AudioBox, because it simply works, right???

Don't you mean Fender AudioBox?

What version of AudioBox you have?

I suppose I do mean Fender, I have got to start remembering that.

My AudioBox is an older model...22VSL. Are you familiar with PreSonus stuff? The VSL stands for "virtual studio live". It is something like a mixer with FX. You can monitor with reverb and delay, but you cannot track (record) them. It has some "drag and drop" features. It is good, solidly built hardware, very dependable, always have gelled with PreSonus.

Also, there is EQ and compressor/ limiter which can be recorded, and also gave me louder volume when I was drunk watching You Tube vids.

And also there is the "Fat Channel"... the famous channel strip they like to boast about...it is all cool stuff, in my view.

Oh yeah...and one other thing...I have been posting lately (full KVR asshole mode )

well, about software subscriptions and how I truly feel that they make sense. I represent no agenda other than my own KVR opinion over here.

And, speaking of PreSonus, well (oop's...Fender, got it.) Studio One has a subscription offer.
