loopable multienvelope? yes please.

I can see the spatial considerations here are an issue for implementing both the FM and the multi-env. It also may just be an issue of development economy for Liqih and this is fine too. I think just the FM/Ringmod will add a very nice textural component to the current EVE structure, and the work in the effects slots will add to the breadth of sounds available. A multi-envelope is a bonus.

Now, if it is predominantely an issue of GUI economy, I think enough space could comfortably be gained, and without creating clutter, by selecting a few more knobs on the GUI to be changed to sliders, like the LFO's have already from the EVE 1.8 design to these mock-ups.

For instance, and I am just thinking out loud here, the effects send and pan dials could be changed to sliders, freeing a square area for a vector envelope. Alternatively, the EQ's and Filters per layer could be made sliders, creating a strip for a multistage envelope.

I am *not* at all for shoving everything possible into the GUI, and if it creates too much clutter, I would rather skip the idea all together, as I really think that the ease of programming in EVE with everydial instantly accessible, is a great benefit.

Ok I will try to keep this short and simple since soo much has been written in this thread already:

-multistages don't really fit EVEs concept to me. And they are no fun to program, thats why I sold Rhino. Maybe a vector triangle or something would be ok. But I have Zero Vector and rarely use the vector...

-Add FM, AM - great!

-maybe more modulation options, like a simple retro vocoder to modulate between samplesets.

-timbre control, a la Ultra Focus. Moves the entire set of multisamples up or down the keyboard, which results in totally different sounds since notes get resampled to non-matching keyboard ranges (hard to explain, sorry)

-(liqih has already heard this one...) Stereo sample support! And to hell with whether it takes more cpu.. EVE is sooo cpu-lite already.

-Don't worry about backwards compatibility imo. Make a seperate dll and include EVE1 in a more expensive bundle or something.

-EVE2 needs a totally redone gui I think. After using the new Branis skin for EVE ONE, the old EVE 1.8 skin looks ... umm ... not so nice ;)

-At LEAST 3 modular fx slots. Frankly I'd like to use the new filter on virtually every preset.. And with FM AM etc. it will be pretty necessary.

good ideas there floyd, thanks

but to speak again about development economy, the poll got only 34 votes so far, <sigh>
and here we are less that ten people talking,
ok maybe EVE users are lurking
but I'm not feeling a huge interest in EVE 2,

maybe I'm just depressed for too much working, <grin>

it's could be be difficult for most users to follow the development of their vsti( not enough time , work...). Eve is very good and i'm sure most user will be interest with the new version :)

Liqih, how many disciples do you need ? You have the 10 trusted and true. Don't lose heart ! I thought we were on a good track...

What about the dual-release Eve "keys" & Eve "synth/pad" idea ? One to keep compatibility & one for the geeks. And those fm mp3s you promised !

Yeah, Jesus only started with 12, and look at the impression he left on history...you are in good company! 8)

Luigi,
some people - like me - could be lurking just because they agree with the general direction EVE2 is taking, or because they don't have new ideas after what was expressed here.

I voted to keep the vintage machine concept, so my indication is to stress every component (oscillators, effects, modulation) to pursue this goal.
Here’s my wish-list:

- oscillators: EVE really finds its beauty in the sampleset. So high-quality, dedicated libraries must remain a central, driving force. A nice addition would be random tuning on each note-on (per layer!). This a little trick that adds a huge warmth to the sound. I used this feature a lot in the Muz3uM banks I made for z3ta+.

- arpeggio: be able to enable it for each layer. Imagine: two layers play a lush pad while the third one (a short decay one like a pluck sound or an electric piano) plays an arpeggio. This would be a killer feature.

- effects: old school here. The initial concept of EVE is similar to what old keyboard heroes did in the ‘70s, layering synths to build their wall of sound. Also effects were abused, often stealing stomp boxes and amps from guitar players… I fear that two fx slots could be not enough (just count what you would use with a string-machine patch: phaser, tremolo/vibrato, delay…).
But this a minor issue: one could add a send in the sequencer after all.
My requests are: spring reverb (maybe as a new algorithm in the echo section) and envelope follower

- filters: this is difficult. There are so many features that could be discussed here, but they would require a dedicated new discussion and a longer development. So I pass here for now. Maybe for EVE3?

- modulation: agree on FM (a must!), not sure about the vocoder: what is the carrier in this case?
LFO: more waveforms. I see random/S&H as mandatory here.
For the initial reason, I wouldn’t see a great benefit from adding complex, absynth-esque envelopes.

And for backwards compatibility, that's a serious issue.
I wouldn’t compromise the overall concept just to keep the hundreds of existing presets.
I would use the original EVE for them anyway.
Could EVE2 and EVE just coexist on the same machine? Like with EVE ONE.
But it really depends on the plans you have for EVE2 and, of course, the cost of its development

I wish you all the best

ciao
Francesco

yeah i'd like an eve 2 as well, eve is mad.

A smart randomizer would be cool. 8) The ability to randomize only specific sections would be very nice.

Carrier is one osc, modulator is a different osc. This is another feature in Ultra Focus and you can make some cool sounds using it.

I see.
The traditional (and predictable) vocoder sound is when you use external audio (speech, drumloops...) as modulator.

What kind of sounds can you expect using two oscillators? Some kind of "spectral morph"?
Are there audio examples of this?

Brilliant. Sounds amazing. It will totally open up the sonic pallate of all current and future EVE soundsets, and take the synth to the next level, along with the effects. I really, really need this function.

Very good indeed ! The square wave demo is * exactly* what I was hoping such a function might achieve. You *must* be inspired now Liqih !
