Begging for improved timestretch

OK,
I started the begging thread.
I don't care if I have to wait a wee little bit. I just find my current way of having to do work (render timestretched loops in ACID then import into T) kind of creatively limiting.
I bought T1 in the first place because it claimed timestretching. I guess I figured it would sound as good as ACID, which I was accustomed to.
I would like to be able to stretch in T, just as easy as it is in ACID. If that means a little bit of grungy response during edits, with a more robust algo during rendering - I can live with that.
Also, I can't re-wire my version of ACID (2.0 from about 4 years ago). I haven't tried Express - does it work as a re-wire client - anybody tried it?

According to the Acid product comparison chart, only Acid Pro has Rewire and VSTi support.rockstar_not wrote: Also, I can't re-wire my version of ACID (2.0 from about 4 years ago). I haven't tried Express - does it work as a re-wire client - anybody tried it?

Beno? Could you please give us some idea of what is or isn't planned for time-stretching/pitch-shifting in T2 or beyond?
A lot of us have waited a long time for something that doesn't appear to be coming. So is it on its way or not, and if so, how much longer can we expect to wait for it?

Dont forget the beatslicing. Together with timestrechting it makes great combo. For drum loops I prefer slicing, while for melodyc loops timestretch is a winner, of course. Also, slicing use less CPU power and tempo can be altered in realtime, while realtime timestetch algos usually sound...hmmm...not so good.

OK,
Several posts in this thread mention beatslicing.
I'm raising my hand that I'm ignorant about beatslicing.
Can anyone point me to a place where there is a tutorial on the subject of beatslicing?
I think I know what it means, I just don't see how it's easily done. Start with a drum loop that has maybe kick, snare, hi-hat open and closed, and maybe shaker. Use some piece of software to indicate the start points for each of these instruments, then when playing back at a different tempo, the start points get re-distributed in time over the length of the same number of bars in the loop, but at the new tempo.
Anyone care to elaborate on how to easily do this with T or with some other freebie application?

Scott,
beatslicing is exactly what you,ve just said. What I would like Tracktion to do is just a transient detection. Afterwards, loops becomes a group of "subclips" which are in relative postition to each other and everytime you change tempo, the loop is following you. For example of beatslicers you should check out Phatmatic pro, dicer, microdicer, .... I think Phatmatik pro has the most accurate engine. There is a demo available so you can check it by yourselves. There is also a manual avaiable with all the info you need.
Cheers

We're begging for a usable time-stretching for at least one and a half years now...

and from the tone of Jules' replies around that time I think he got the message that we thought his algo sucked.jens wrote:We're begging for a usable time-stretching for at least one and a half years now...
I'd be very surprised if it isn't addressed.
And very disappointed.

Just adding my voice to the gospel choir of timestretch worshippers!
Whilst it may not be the ultimately deciding factor, a really usable timestretch would make me a hell of a lot more likely to purchase T2. The current algo is the worst of any of my hosts, it's ok as an effect but unusable for it's intended purpose.
At the moment this feature seems to be being swept under the carpet, we've only been asking for it for about two years...

JULES "oh no problem, i was thinking about that and it's practically done.."
MACKIE "okay, QT supportz0rS!"
JULES "psh, did that ages ago, just been keeping it secret"
MACKIE "okay, what are you gonna do with all this money??!"
JULES "well, i think that i should put all my efforts into making a good timestretch feature in this next version. all the loyal users have been asking for it for a long time, and my last one i only put in as a joke anyway. it's about time i did a real one"
MACKIE "okay, take all the time you need. this is our BIG special secret, let's make sure we don't announce it til the last split second, okay?"
JULES "fine by me! now POLISH MY MOUSE, MACK-BITCH!"

...after all, not much point bundling all those loops if there's no really useable way of manipulating them.
bit (i.e. VERY!) mean of them to keep us in suspense though...
