The fact that anyone is missing out on stuff, and that the "attitude" you thought was dangerous to for instance art also applies there. Because most people only know of the hit makers, regardless of what type of art or genre it is.

Unless that hit was "before" that persons "time" though eh? And, is it really unreasonable to expect the practitioner to know more about his subject than the layman?

People today know of old hits. The ones that are big enough. Applies to art, music, technology etc. And yes, I think it's unreasonable. People tend to find out about stuff they are interested in, it's not up to you to judge how people should maintain their own interests.
