Yes, it has and in a BIG way too! I demo'd P5 1.x a couple of times and never really got into it. Personally, I really did not like the GUI or it's workflow and found it lacking in many areas, so I took a pass on it.
But, P5 2.0, seems like a brand new app, with a new streamlined user interface, Groove Matrix, Pre-Track Arpeggiator, gapless audio engine, Device Chains, audio recording, Dimension sampler/synth, etc.
After watching the P2 video a few more times and looking at all the new features and enhancements, I could not resist any longer. So I pulled the trigger and fortunately found a copy, still available online for $179.10 (free shipping - no tax) with a free upgrade to P5 2.0 :D

Eric,

To answer your question, Project5 Version 2 does have plugin delay compensation (pdc).

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

you'll have to fill in a form and send it off with a copy of your invoice. also, bearing in mind that there's a 3 gig soundset for dimension, I guess that downloading is out of the question...

You need to get an upgrade form for V2 from Edirol UK's website.

In the UK go to edirol's site and there is a form to fill in to claim free upgrade.

I just wish they would give me the bloody upgrade price - £70 I oculd live with.

You will have to download the Redemption form and send it to Cakewalk along with a copy of your sales receipt and the P5 1.x serial number. P5 2.0 and associated content (many GB's worth) will arrive on a DVD:

is all good - found the form at cakewalk - they say 4-6 weeks after receiveing it - but I will check edirol UK

hopefully they will do it quicker

alas they say 4-6 weeks from now too - bit annoyed that i just spent £100 - getting the product in 6 weeks time seems a bit off - and yes i know iget 1.5 before then but i don't really want that

The Cakewalk US form is no good for European buyers... I checked...

one last thing that i'm not sure p5 v2 can do...
is there a grid system like in the wrap function of Live! that was so great to do dj type mixes... ?

Post

i've watched the video a few times now
It's a lot of information in a very well--organized and condensed form.

what strikes me as a P5 user from v1, is the workflow used by Brandon in the video is simply not possible in v1 or v1.5 and endorses this shift from P5 as a very efficient midi composition tablet to a sort of composition instrument to be played and recorded.

so while the usual 1,2, 4 or 8 bar patterns may now be fodder for the Groove Matrix workflow, in addition to the basis for track arrangement, there's also this more Sonar-like begin-to-end audio or midi recording model. That may have always been there with midi, but I for one never went there given the work model of patterns that I used.

I guess my point is v2 opens up a set of workflow models, where the previous versions had what I always thought was a very efficient, but apparently narrow model.

feeling a bit blown away

I don't know if I could wait for 6 weeks, I think i'm gonna fudge the upgrade and just get version 2 outright when it drops, and as poor as I am that says alot. i think their asking price is very reasonable.

This is an excerpt from an online chat with the very helpful folks at AudioMidi.com. I thought it would be helpful...

Stan Dudinski from Sales is here!
Neb : Hi Stan
Stan Dudinski : hello
Neb : I'm interested in the competitive upgrade to Project 5 v.2
Neb : I have Live 4
Neb : my question is will I have to somehow give up live 4 to do the upgrade?
Neb : do I have to relinquish my license?
Stan Dudinski : nope
Stan Dudinski : you keep your old software
Neb : so how does it work?
Stan Dudinski :
Neb : I send you guys a copy of the receipt or something?
Stan Dudinski : you provide us with the proof
Stan Dudinski : a scan of the manual
Neb : I bought it from you guys :)
Stan Dudinski : etc
Stan Dudinski : cool
Neb : ok so I get you all that and you send me the software...I read there's more to do to register with cakewalk?
Stan Dudinski : yes, the process needs to be repeated with them as well
Neb : I see
Stan Dudinski : it is not fairly easy and if there is a hang-up let us know and we'll clear it out
Neb : when will you have P5?
Stan Dudinski : full version of the crossgrade?
Neb : crossgrade
Neb : I thought they were the same thing
Stan Dudinski : they are different products
Stan Dudinski : should be here beginning of May
Neb : oh ok
Neb : will contact you then
Neb : so have you seen it?
Neb : in action
Stan Dudinski : oh yes
Neb : thoughts compared to Live?
Stan Dudinski : it should have been version 1 to be honest
Stan Dudinski : different beast altogether
Stan Dudinski : I mean compared to version 1
Neb : yeah, I wasn't that impressed with v1
Neb : I know it has PDC, which is really nice
Neb : the main concern I have is the CPU usage with softsynths
Stan Dudinski : although I don't know how the beatmatching will perform the new version is a MUCH better version
Neb : Live is terrible about CPU usage for softsynths
Stan Dudinski : yes, project seems to be a lot better
Neb : really?
Stan Dudinski : the audio engine sounds better as well
Neb : so the sound doesn't sound thin, like Live sometimes does?
Stan Dudinski : correct
Neb : and it's more efficient that Live for softsynths too?
Neb : wow, this is going to put Ableton on alert
Neb : one last question - the "marketing" says that P5 supports VSTi synths...is it native support or via the wrapper like Sonar?
Stan Dudinski : it is native
Neb : excellent
Stan Dudinski : nice, ain't it?
Neb : oh one more question - sorry
Neb : is there an on-board audio editor, or does it allow you to use external audio editors?
Stan Dudinski : NP
Neb : and what about how Live lets you use warp markers to correct a groove
Stan Dudinski : there is an on-board editor although I did not see how detailed it was
Stan Dudinski : I shall be getting an NFR soon and will have a better grasp on the new version
Neb : ok
Neb : any ideas about the warp markers
Neb : ?
Stan Dudinski : no idea on that
Stan Dudinski : BTW did you see the new ZETA from them?
Neb : well, there's nothing new about the z3ta :)
Stan Dudinski : http://www.audiomidi.com/common/cfm/pro ... m?pid=6403
Neb : anyone in the scene knows the venerable z3ta
Stan Dudinski : true
Stan Dudinski : LOL
Neb : anyways, thanks so much for all the info
Neb : if you dont' mind, I'd like to post this convo on the KVR forums
Stan Dudinski : sure thing
Stan Dudinski : of course
Neb : later
Stan Dudinski : let them know we are here to answer those questions
Stan Dudinski : cheers
