Spectrasonics rumors...

A big fat piano library. This is the best they can come up with? What a joke. Spectrasonics really failed with this release even down to the launch time stuffup (a few minutes before midnight LA time). A big FU to everyone.
And their promo video is even more irritating: a mixture of "our team of music experts" and a load of jazz bar piano players wanking on with horrible riffs.

OMG who cares. Aren't there already too many sampled pianos on the market?

Actually, its prob very good if you are a keys person. Obviously its not aimed at the edm/bedroom kids, so wont get much love at kvr.
Not something i need, but im sure there are lots of pros who will find this very useful for composing when they dont have the real stuff to hand.

...and therein lies the rub. It's pretty obvious to me from the video that the quality and variety of what we have here is really outstanding. But how that translates to the market is yet to be seen. Sampletank it ain't, but the proportion of people who need that level of finesse is, I suspect, pretty low, as AnX suggests.Elektronisch wrote:400 for key library. Oh come on, you get more keys with full sampletank 3 wich you can get in the market for less then 100. And the keys there sound great (i think). You can better get K11 with added 200 and you get alot more in total.
It's essentially a niche product, essential really only for session keyboard players and for those needing to follow a David Holmes temp. Best in class - almost certainly, although when it comes to acoustic pianos, people are very particular and Pianoteq especially is pretty revered. The variety out of the one piano here is impressive though.
As for the announcement - it was an own goal really. They actually missed their own launch day (this material was't up on the 1st even in California), and then to get these leaks and bits of instagram videos saying "it's pianos" was one helluva buzzkill. Maybe the people most bothered by it aren't the target audience here, but it seems a rather pointless self-inflicted wound from an overall brand perspective.

Gosh, you're right! A replacement for people who don't want to lug an entire piano! That's innovation right there.AnX wrote:Actually, its prob very good if you are a keys person. Spectrasonics - EPIC FAIL!!
1. Who on earth is going to buy this "new instrument"?? Who needs a $400 library of Clavs and electric pianos??
I'm sure this instrument is very nice, but I am not in the least interested in it.
2. There are thousands of Stylus RMX owners who were hoping for an update and our hopes have been dashed. But there is no word from Spectrasonics on this - your secrecy is getting really frustrating. Or are you just disrespecting your clients? Why can't you just say if there will be an update to RMX, and more or less when?
I lost a LOT of respect for Spectrasonics today. This new product is neither innovative nor interesting.
And I now give up on Stylus RMX. I need a new drum tool and it won't be a Spectrasonics product, even if they release an update for it next week.
Who can recommend a decent replacement for Stylus RMX?

Its not just a piano. Its a variety of 'keys'. Its not about innovation, its about quality.spirit wrote:Gosh, you're right! A replacement for people who don't want to lug an entire piano! This could be great for keyboard players in bands and weekend warriors. Which would coincidentally be a new market segment for Spectrasonics, I think.
(not me, though)

here you can have a controversy, because of the first impression for whats its aimed for and how much "quality" there is by making presentation. If you have a marketing presentation that is focused on certain aspects you can make impression that basicly any instrument is aimed to one or another niche and has outstanding quality.AnX wrote:Its not just a piano. Just type jordan rudess and sample tank, with that guy playing instruments from sampletank it does sound great right? or this guy, he plays really awesome, his skills are great and look how he passionate is and how he is amazed (tho he always is amazed by every product he gives review) ? to me it certainly sounds like a high quality product.
So basicly Spectrasonics hired some keyboard warriors who played 1 or 2 instruments in entire life, probably never heard anything coming out of computer, so how they cannot be amazed by this quality. And here you go, impression of high quality is made.
So is it really that high quality that is being shown? we dont know until we play the library ourselfs and decide. One thing is that it is overpriced, because Jordan Rudess can make Sampletank 3 sing for much smaller price.

Imagine all the people excited by a new keyboard rompler
No brilliant Kontakt libraries beside it and no emulations too
It's really hard to do
You may say I'm a dreamer
But Eric is one too

So many haters.
For a product that will be beautifully sampled (Spectrasonics), covering many individual character pieces, along with full Omnisphere integration, I think the price is fine.
People will pay almost the same amount for Spitfire Audio 'Hans Zimmer' piano, and that's just a single sample source.
Then again, these days it does seem to be that 'cool factor' and 'marketing' win over pure simple quality.
*shrug*.
