Correct, we do not post affiliate links to our own products or use skimlinks here.

So why did you not simply state the date of launch as opposed to giving us a link to get the info?

I linked to the news on our site directly. That's not abnormal, to link to an announcement on one's web site.zvenx wrote: Mon Feb 04, 2019 1:06 amPeter - IK Multimedia wrote: Mon Feb 04, 2019 12:59 am Correct, we do not post affiliate links to our own products or use skimlinks here.

Hmmm. call me skeptical. I don't know any other developer here that does that.
Not saying that there are none, I am just not aware of any.
Are you aware of one here on kvr?
I have no issue with the link but I see zero reason (beyond the one I mentioned before) for not also stating the launch date in your post in plain english as well.

Not sure if that was in response to me, but Peter above says they don't use skimlinks.
But more importantly my question was not about skimlinks, but rather, which other developer when asked about a products launch date which they have already made available publicly via social media et. al. sends you a link and not simply and directly giving the launch date answer here on kvr.

KVR does the skimlinks not IK, which is what I and others have said. There was discussion about this years ago on this site, and Ben confirmed it. So what I said and what Peter said are both correct. KVR automatically changes the links for some sites even if a non skimlink is posted.
The whole link and date discussion really seems nitpicky and out there even for a KVR IK thread.
Ik wants people to visit the site. Peter works for IK. Ergo a link was posted.

People generally want to know the shortest route from
point A to point B.
If people want the scenic route, they'll find it.
In travel, people often use both ways,
letting circumstance and priority decide things.
Marketing departments that promote only
one of the routes wind up frustrating people
quite needlessly. People who are budgeting
their gear purchases around time-limited discounts,
deserve and will appreciate both options.
Cheers

This product has piqued my interest from the moment I saw the videos on youtube. I saw heard sample tanks 3 samples a few years ago and it didn't inspire me at all, as the quality was too low. Now, I think that they have finally made an affordable product that sounds fine. As I'm entitled to the upgrade, it would cost me only 250 euros, shipping included, and I might be able to afford it.
I don't want to hijack to thread, but what alternatives are there to this product, around the 250 euros range? I heard a few kotakt 6 demos, and in my opinion the sound quality is about the same, but kontakt is 400 euros (and if I wanted to upgrade to komplete 12 at a later time it would be another 400 euros or less with promotions). There's halion 6 which is 300 euros, how is it compared to sample tank 4? Is it as comprehensive, or would I have to instead get Absolute collection 4 to have the same sound variety of instruments and fx (and absolute 4 costs much more).
Let me explain my background and my goal. I want to learn to compose music, and I've read many theoretical books, but didn't progress almost at all, because it was just theory and no practice. I was thinking about buying komplete in the future, when I can afford it, and when I know how to compose. But I'm afraid that will never happen if I don't practice, and the affordable sample tank 4 seems to me a nice option, with decent quality. In fact, I've listened to much commercial music with lower instruments quality.
As I don't play the piano, but am a guitarist, I'm not really interested in the quality of guitars, but don't really know how to arrange keys. Are the arpeggiator and phrasing functions solutions for the very beginner, too? Would they enable me to compose a decent song with little to no piano skills? How about drum arrangement, can I use precomposed rhythms for that?

If I were a developer then I too would post info such as release dates on my own web site and link to that. Then I can add updates etc in one place only and know that there are no other places that need updating.zvenx wrote: Mon Feb 04, 2019 1:06 amPeter - IK Multimedia wrote: Mon Feb 04, 2019 12:59 am Correct, we do not post affiliate links to our own products or use skimlinks here.

Even though you’re only joking, I can actually play quite well, I’m just not a fan of his style. He sounds like a classical musician trying to play something contemporary, but it also sounds like he’s stuck in the 70s. He also needs to focus a bit more on melody and less on fast runs. He does waaaaaaay too many of them.Teksonik wrote: Sun Feb 03, 2019 12:51 pm No but it does make you sound jealous........
I am most definitely jealous of the skill he has worked to acquire. The only thing I don't like about his playing is the fact that it makes my playing sound like I've only got one finger on each hand....![]()
But it's so refreshing to see someone like Mr. Rudess who has truly mastered their instrument in this day and age of loops and standing on stage while holding down one key and calling it "performing".....![]()
Yeah okay I’ve turned super critical I think!! Haha!!
The point of his demonstrations has been to showcase SampleTank anyway. He’s done his job.

I purchased the Max edition and I keep wondering how long it will take to download 250 GB. A full day perhaps? My computer has an internal SSD drive and to this point, I've put all my sample libraries on it. But SampleTank 4 Max, because of its size, will have to go onto my slower external HD. Additional time onto the slower drive? Should be an exercise anyway.

Depends on how much bandwidth IK dedicates to the project once ST4 is released and everyone tries to download 250 GB at the same time and of course your internet connection speed.
On my 100 Mbits/sec connection it should take just under 6 hours.
On a dial up modem it will take 833 days..........

(I assume the 250GB file will be broken up into smaller files so they can be downloaded over several sessions if needed)
