If this is the case then why all the bother about CLAP?? Surely any 3rd party's would develop for that.Nemirov wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:19 am I was thinking about what Polarity said in his yt. That it could be test of selling of 3rd Party addons not from Bitwig developers.
[Fixed in 4.4] Weird bug: latest "Spectral Suite" update not included in upgrade plan

Maybe not many renewals. My licence expired just before 4.3. I skipped it and waiting for what comes next. I will renew when a released version seems worth it for me to pay without thinking what else I will get for the next 12 months because, that system became very gray.ericj23 wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:22 am Lets see AVID (owners of Pro Tools) in 2020 had turnover of 360 million dollars. I am pretty sure Bitwig aren't selling enough $129 upgrades to touch the side of that.
This reads like Bitwig need money - that might be because they are greedy, but more worrying for me is the idea that they are going under. Best DAW going at the moment, for me, so it would be sad if it joined all the others (Kore, Project 5, etc)

I'd be on board with that idea. Open up Bitwig to developers, sell a few 3rd party add-ons, take a commission and blammo! You have a new income stream.Nemirov wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:19 am I was thinking about what Polarity said in his yt. The issue is, that this not a 3rd party add-on and it is taking time away from developing the core software. Time that we pay them for with the update plan. Or so we thought.
If they had made this a paid add-on for 8-Track then sure, but not on the main (premium) product.
If they had done this and offered everyone on a plan right now another year of updates, I'd have bought it immediately. Now I'm worried Bitwig is either another Native Instruments, iZoptope-like ultra-capitalist fiasco waiting to happen or they are in financial trouble. Either way, why bother buying another update plan now?
Bitwig is already very expensive compared to what I paid for Ableton Live updates, let alone most other DAWs (Reaper doesn't count as it's build by a multi-millionaire; Logic is also cross-financed by Mac sales). But I did so without thinking twice. It's a small company and it's the best compromise of keeping the lights on while not being a subscription. Now I really question that commitment.

I always do that - I am on 4.1 and I don't have a plan because the new things did not interest me enough. I skipped a good few of the 3 point releases. I never understand why people complain about the update cost. Buy in a sale and use it when you need/want to upgrade. Always being up to date seems so pointless. It keeps working if you haven't got the latest greatest.ozinga wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:28 amMaybe not many renewals. My licence expired just before 4.3. I guess that might be contributing to them having any money issues! Ooops
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

You don't want anything for free but you are making controversy when someone wants to charge you for their work.musikarldererste wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:23 am we want nothing for free

Einstein. You are the reason the world is in today's state. When millennials want everything for free while at the same time they can only sock their mum tit and they can not even cook an egg.
Suck your mom's tit. At least nothing can go wrong with that action. Or can it?

Let's face it. If Jesus, Moses, Krishna, or whatever - if they came down today and gave each and every one of you a gold brick - you would still complain and your music would still suck and stink. Bigtime.
The only thing you know to do is to complain and suck your mom's tit.

NO - the plug ins look great actually.
Up there with Physion from Eventide - maybe even better. Not everyone will need this functionality though.

So 170 bucks a year is free for you? Wow. I'm not a poor guy but I still think twice if I should spend this amount of money on an update, especially if I only get a crippled core version for my money and I have to pay extra to get the excited stuff.kmonkey wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 10:42 amYou don't want anything for free but you are making controversy when someone wants to charge you for their work.musikarldererste wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:23 am we want nothing for free

I think this is the same for everyone.UncleAge wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 1:40 am Now I too am a bit taken back by the sudden nature of this. And my subscription is up in a few days. Will I renew it then? No. The business model has changed and so will my renewal events. In the past I did so on my anniversary to more or less support the good folk at BW. Now things have changed a bit. I'll renew once I see enough there as a significant upgrade/update to what I have already shelled out for.
At 4.3.9 many would wait for either a v5.0, or at least something worth upgrading in a 4.4.
Not sure this extra plug in would change that. Maybe as a 4.4 people would have renewed.

Some of the comments in this thread are kind of funny.
People argue about paying Bitwig devs for 12 month. You don't!
If you brought Bitwig 4 last year you got 4.1 / 4.2 / 4.3 for free.
I think we should all come down and wait until the next update 4.4 (or 5.0) will come out.
Maybe this changes the view of many people regarding this "payed add-on" dilemma.
They shouldn't have introduced a new version with this "payed addon".
I brought the add-on and the devices are really nice.
Some kickass Oszillators and Filters for the grid would be great, maybe by U-He (like Diva) - I don't care if she is hungry
An option to skip the pop-up for a new specific version should be implemented.

Definitely could be communicated better. I don't really see Spectral Tool as core DAW functionality.zfigz wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 2:56 am i agree with others that the main issue here is a lack of communication. there should have been an announcement that let everyone know "hey, we've got these really cool add-on devices that y'all will love, but they'll come with an additional cost all in favor of making bitwig as a whole better / stronger." but, they didn't. either their marketing person is completely daft or just doesn't give a shit what kinda backlash could have arose from a decision like this with zero communication.
but... these only work in Bitwig, and I wouldn't be able use them in other DAWs. So for now it is Bitwig functionality only...
I'm sure they will listen to their user base.

I'm weighing it up. The only reasons not too would be:kmonkey wrote: Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:20 am I just purchased this and enjoy it. If you don't have 80 something to support your favorite DAW company at least once a year then get a life!!!!!
1. They may revert and include it
2. It wouldn't work in Cubase, which I'd like it too if paying extra.
Steinberg add-ons like Padshop and Halion work outside of Cubase. Just saying.
I think they will work something out, and come out of this stronger!
