I don't know about 'most people' - there seem to be far more 'feature requests' in this thread than complaints about stability, certainly since the 2nd beta.johnnyberrygoode wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:33 amI think most people just want a more stable version to start migrating from zebra2 to zebra3.Urs wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:09 amGood chance for that.johnnyberrygoode wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:09 amI really hope that we will see the new beta this weekUrs wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 8:49 am I just hope the argument continues long enough here, such that nobody has the energy to bring it back up when we actually release Zebra 3.
(expect 200+ pages of requests to bring back the beta UI)

(Single frame would suffice or alternatively beeing able to switch the LFOs into drawable with optional hold/sustain points.)
Because why?

i have had a very steady beta experience to be honest. More stability? had 1 or 2 crashes in total during the beta phase so far...seems freakin goodThoughtExperiment wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 1:32 pmI don't know about 'most people' - there seem to be far more 'feature requests' in this thread than complaints about stability, certainly since the 2nd beta.johnnyberrygoode wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:33 amI think most people just want a more stable version to start migrating from zebra2 to zebra3.Urs wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:09 amGood chance for that.johnnyberrygoode wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:09 amI really hope that we will see the new beta this weekUrs wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 8:49 am I just hope the argument continues long enough here, such that nobody has the energy to bring it back up when we actually release Zebra 3.

I'm sure that this has been discussed before, so sorry in advance, but is it possible to modulate parameters (like Curve Morph) with a noise oscillator, or other oscillators? Struggling to figure out how if so. Thanks.

Based on my understanding, the only audio rate things you can do are: 1) phase modulation by using the sine based FMO as carrier 2) filter cutoff modulation using input audio data. Other than these two, you cannot do audio rate modulation in Zebra.UmFuFu wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 6:38 pm I'm sure that this has been discussed before, so sorry in advance, but is it possible to modulate parameters (like Curve Morph) with a noise oscillator, or other oscillators? This is not the strength of Zebra. Full audio rate modulation is available for FMOs, Filters and Ring Modulators, but not with the spline based oscillators as target.UmFuFu wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 6:38 pm I'm sure that this has been discussed before, so sorry in advance, but is it possible to modulate parameters (like Curve Morph) with a noise oscillator, or other oscillators? For me it's not only about sonic possibilities but also about workflow. Using one MSEQ is sometimes so much faster than combining different modules to get near the result of one MSEQ.pdxindy wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 8:37 pmI think the discussion is more interesting within the context of sonic results. Post a preset where you are trying to get a certain sonic result and you cannot cause you need a 5th MSEG. Otherwise it's this abstract thing where a few people say they need it but never demonstrate how and where.Fannon wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 6:55 pm Well, of course there' a LOT of possibilities for modulation. Maybe it's good to be forced to be more creative with what you have.
But I can also see the argument for more MSEG. They're just so nice and convenient / visual and the most flexible option. It might be just simpler to consistently use the MSEGs, even if there would be other option.
I do more in depth sound design than many users and I hardly ever use the 4 MSEG's that are already there. I have yet to run out of modulation in real use. I think the onus is on those asking for it to show why it's needed. My impression is it isn't needed, just a few people want no limitations even if those limitations are abstract and not an impediment to actual sound design.

Thanks... Alternatively, I was going to ask if there is there a way to control the speed (or any other parameters) of the Mod Noise oscillator, but then I read in the manual that it's the same as an LFO on Random at top speed (so 0.1s, rate on high), so that's nice.Urs wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 6:53 pmThis is not the strength of Zebra. Agreed... and that's why there are MSEG's.midi_transmission wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 6:59 pmFor me it's not only about sonic possibilities but also about workflow. Both Env's and LFO's can do stuff that MSEG's cannot. And there are uses when they are the more effective modulator to use.
Then there are times when the Math modules are the best workflow to create a specific result. Same with the Mappers.
Sometimes combining is a faster workflow than an MSEG. Want to make a sine wave that fades out and also slows down? The MSEG can do it, but there are faster and more easily editable ways of doing that with 2 modulators (Env + Math is one example).
Then there's the Matrix Modifiers. They can again do complex stuff where an MSEG would be a cumbersome way to replicate the same result.
Zebra 3's MSEG's are amazing! But they aren't a wonder modulator that are better than all the other options. They are all there for a reason. And between all the options, there is plenty of modulation available.

Yeah, Scrambler is useful for this. Also, Spectral Noise has a different character... a more shimmery noise.UmFuFu wrote: Tue Apr 07, 2026 7:25 pm PS: I'm guessing another way to inject some noise type modulation sounds would be with oscillator effects, like Scrambler? I'll have a play.

My take: Technically we have 4 x 8 MSEG curves available. While you can only use 4 simultaneously on a single note, you can get pretty creative with how you access the rest. For more "drawn" curves, Mappers can help.
