Quick question which already have been answered guys, but don't have time to read 31 pages. Right now, the upgrade from X to 9.2 is $129. When it goes to 9.5, is it going to stay that price? If not guess I'll go from 7 to 9.2 right now. Thanks, if anyone actually knows as I can't see anything on the Prop site about it.

We don't know. All that's been said is 9.2 -> 9.5 is a free upgrade. Reason in the past (5 or more?) years has had a model of $129 to upgrade from any version of Reason to latest. But with this change in ownership it's possible it could go to $149 or more.

You can also usually find upgrade deals at places like jrr, I think I got my upgrade to 9 for ~100 there

You don't wish to wait for version 10? Since 9.0 was released almost a year ago, release trends might suggest that a full update is around the corner.

On the other hand (and Im torn on this), I am fully expecting a price restructure, either a subscription model or a tiered upgrade price such as 129 from 9, 149 from 8, 249 from 7 (these are just random examples)

Certainly if version 10 is a subscription, I would be unhappy being stuck with v7. On the other hand upgrading now, only to see v10 in a few months with the same pricing as always, would not be cool either.

No sale on the upgrade at the moment

Hoping to see a sale soon!

I'd really like to see some info from propellerhead if they are making any Big changes like changing to a subscription based model or not Before upgrading to 9 though.

There might not be a sale, but the usual forum or group codes may get you 10-16 percent off

So, since hell has frozen over, what's next?

Apple allowing OSX for legitimate use on a home-built PC? :scared:

Verdane employ the best developers in the business to create a 'Super Reason' DAW, sell it to Microsoft for $6billion, and the rack as we know it only becomes available to owners of a five grand Surface Studio.

Now that's speculation !

When I tell them it's Reason, they're super interested. When I tell them they've gotta re-buy or discard their plugin collection...less so
Is Audio Imperia an industry-recognised provider of sounds in the field they serve? If so, your statement above is an incredible endorsement for the power of Reason, and something like this is what Propellerhead should be capitalizing on with future marketing, now that composers just like yourself (who use VST DAWs) have the opportunity to use their existing library of plugins.

Although in saying that, I wonder if anyone would take the leap to a new DAW when they know their existing one back-to-front. I do commercial audio editing myself, and for a long time I was reluctant to even look at another DAW, but eventually out of sheer frustration of thinking 'there must be a better way', looked at Cubase & Pro-Tools (of which I own 'lite versions' that came with various hardware I've bought oer the years), and eventually settled on Reaper, because with a few custom hotkeys, my commercial project completion time has literally been slashed in half.

I raise this because if the tables were turned, and a Reaper/Cubase/Pro-Tools user were to look into Reason now that VST hosting will soon be possible, they may just as soon be let down once they trial the sequencer and audio editing capabilities, and dismiss the platform for another decade.

This is, I believe, one of the next critical development focus items that Propellerhead should be investing in.

Gave up on that thought once they started giving the OS away.

It's possible to do it now, but it's a lot more work. Of course I'm someone using patched kernel extensions to run NVME M.2 SSDs in a Mac Pro so I'm halfway there anyway...

Well, I was simply trying to come up with the next "hell freezes over" concept.

Ok, maybe this one: KVR isn't a slag fest about ganging up on people because they don't fit the "profile" :D

Thanks guys.I'm now really interested in 9.5 due to the VST addition. Nothing since 7 has really interested that much and I have a lot of great VST synths and effects including a lot of U-he stuff, Imposcar, Korg's Legacy and Synthmaster, so it was easy to use them and Cubase with Rewire obviously, and why but 9.5's VST addition is a game changer for me.And yes, with new owners, who knows how pricing might change from current ways?
