Right, and my own post AFTER that one he was responding to mentioned the difference between using ASIO and using it Live, and that I was operating under the assumption that if it was for Live use, it wouldn't be with the ASIO. However, the original person with the question mentioned that in fact it IS in conjunction with ASIO and 3rd party effects that it's being used.

Indeed, I really love my PodXTL as a general purpose ASIO sound board. Mu guitar with AT2, or MKII sounds TONS better than with my Audigy crap. Although with the Audigy I can get as low as 2ms ASIO latency and with the latency test tool it gives me 6ms.
Now I am planning to either buy an RME card + a decent DI (the Brick?) or wait for the StompIO and for the reviews to pore in. Although the price of an RME + Brick might be prohibitive.
I don't need expressions pedals and midi controls because I can use my podXTL for that, or my FCB1010.

Very cool...Now for the REAL question. Will they be changing the purple color making it all black such as suggested by myself on page 162?Squids wrote:I have some more news about the AD/DA because I was curious about some specs (even though I go by ear most of the time because that's what matters most in the end... how it SOUNDS). It's top quality 24 bit conversion with what I believe is a 102db S/N. The quality is comparable say to a ProTools HD system (which I have so when I get my Stomp IO I will even A/B that just to really prove that theory myself).
All indications lead to it being tailored toward getting the best possible guitar sound and latency... plus thorough performance and editing control. It's pretty serious!!!!!!! But, that said, I don't want to get you too excited and anxious either... I don't see a stack of them in the warehouse just yet. But, when I get even a hint of that I will post about it and let you know. It's still being worked on but there will probably be some official news about it coming. Everything I am saying is unofficial of course... even if SOMETIMES I am used as the spokesman at tradeshows (I did the PR for Stomp IO at NAMM... or at least assisted the Italian-speaking CEO for that and the StealthPlug announcement and I enjoy doing those)... but as I always say in here I am just Squids, sound man and not speaking "officially" about anything else other than Sonic Reality and www.esoundz.com (haha notice how I made that a link?Go buy something! Treat yourself to a dongleless AmpliTube 2 or Ampeg SVX! Haha... oh Ho Ho Ho- ok I am a cheeseball, lol. Oh by the way as I warned you guys we are completely OUT of StealthPlugs and might not have any more in until January... I suggest if you want one and your local store has it you pick it up before they run out. It is an extremely hot item right now and hard to get.).

Mind you when it comes to the XT discussion, I'm talking about using it live, not as a soundcard. The way to test this would be to get a splitter box, send one out to the XT then into your computer, the other directly into your computer, the difference in latency there should be the latency in the XT.

At least I hope they give users black templates to replace that purple color. If I do buy it myself and it is still purple, my first task is to paint the sucker in black, or dark gray.

Folks, some of you are really mixing up various implementations of latencies.
When you record through a POD 100% the hardware based way (monitoring through a mixer and all), you *will* have a latency of some sorts. That's inherent to whatever processing. We don't even need to discuss about how large the latency will be.
Thing is, you will most likely automatically compensate for the latency while recording, but still, the recorded result will be sounding *exactly* like what it sounded while tracking.
When doing software monitoring (what devices like ampsims along with nowadays soundcards, including Stomp I/O are all about), you will as well compensate for latencies while recording (by playing early), but the sequencer will play it back the way the signal hit your converters. Early, that is.
Depending on the overall latency you're able to get from your system, the differences may range from "not noticeable" to "messing up your natural time feel".

Indded, AT2 is great!
But all the issues I mentioned in my previous "what I think about AT2" post are stopping me from buying it...at least until there is an update that can addrress a few of those issues.
By the way, I am having loads of fun recently with MKII...I love this ampsim, and if I had extra money, I would have bought it no question.
Unfortunatly, I am saving my money to buy me a decent sound borad and DI, or maybe stompIO which will give me a live version of AT2, which would be great.

Yes, but not by much, MKII is 200$ USD, and you can get AT2 for as low as 229$.metrosechual wrote:MKII is probably the one i feel best about, and its cheaper no?A3ntar wrote:Indded, AT2 is great!

I'm still of the opinion that AT2 sounds considerably better than anything I've been able to get out of Mk II. Dimitar has done some cool stuff with it in the high-gain department, but aside from some of his sounds (which are too extreme for my playing), I've not been impressed with anything else.

I think they're generally on the sloppy/loose side but I have managed to pull some tighter tones out of AT2 with some coaxing (it's all about finding the right cab). But again, high-gain isn't really my thing. Between the Marshalls, Fenders, and Vox I don't find myself needing the Recto sim all that much. My problem with Revalver MkII from the demo, was that the clean to distorted sounds just felt and sounded funny, for lack of a better word. With Revalver Mk II, even with some tweaking I felt the best I could get was what I would deem a good sound, whereas with some tweaking with AT2 I can get a sound I really like.
