Gotta agree with Bones here. It's more difficult to control a mix if the synth sounds include their own effects. Especially if several different synths are used, all with different delays, chorus' etc.BONES wrote:...effects make it far more difficult to sit something into a mix without muddying everything up, paticularly delay and chorus...

Anyways, thanks for the latest update, Fuzzpilz! Now that I've had my fun with the randomizer, I want to try my hand at creating presets from scratch... and a self-customized GUI with help with the task!

Can't you just turn them off in Oatmeal if not required?

see it's a trick question. i like ice cream better than pancakes, but i don't like to put it over pancakes. the host is still open with the question just hanging there. i can't answer it without guidance.Yagushi wrote:Well... do you?tuz wrote:it even asked me if i preferred ice cream over pancakes at some point.

I'd noticed that too - definately makes making basses tough.ouroboros wrote:the attack on the envelopes won't go shorter than 20ms: maybe that affects the bass, or more likely, I need to figure out some of the phasing issues.
I don't think i'd come to oatmeal for basses and other fat and squelchy sounds though.
I see it more for pads, leads and sequences - there's enough bass-machines out there already.
Having said that, you've done a damn fine job of proving me wrong

Ohhh... I didn't take that double-meaning into consideration but I see what you mean...tuz wrote:see it's a trick question. i like ice cream better than pancakes, but i don't like to put it over pancakes.Yagushi wrote:Well... do you?tuz wrote:it even asked me if i preferred ice cream over pancakes at some point.

I think we've got a "best free VSTi of 2006" and it's only March...
automating the arp is great fun!
here's some hot oat-on-oat action...

thanx for that skin; between yours and the 'nord' skin from ezee, the GUI doesn't seem small anymore; it is very clear and easy to use now.
thanx to both you and ezeeboogie

Well, we made it for 20 plus pages before things got less than congenial, but overall not bad for more than 30 pages so far. I remember finding myself unimpressed with Surge, a synth selling for $190 that had the most mundane presets. A few people seemed unable to avoid making things personal when I didn't praise it as the next great thing. So here's Oatmeal, a nice little synth that is *free* and even skinnable. Let's be grateful to the author for his generosity and agree to perhaps disagree over the qualities of the synth. And thanks to those who have done skins for it.

I know it's all about the sound, but these little pop quizz questions poking the random button make me smile. I'll always wonder what patch I would have heard if I answered differently.
I've played about for an hour or so now and I'm quite impressed. I love having everything laid out withhout scrolling thru pages of GUI.
This is a wonderful gift you've given us, Fuzzpilz. Many, MANY thanks!
And thanks to everybody for their efforts with patches and skins. You guys are great!

now f**k off and die slowly prick.
what is it with you? you established that you were not at all interested in this synth near the beginning of the thread. why do you...
never mind.
i have never been able to really understand people who are just mean for the sake of being mean.
anyway, the GUI issue was simply about ease of programming. You started the insults with your "oh the new GUI makes it sound so much better
what was the point of that? why do you feel the need to be so insulting? what makes you such an awful person? are you off your meds?
lots of people have it tough, man. you're not the only one with issues, but we come here to duscuss and learn about the things that make us happy.
people like you ruin it for me. and i just don't see why you want so badly to make others feel stupid.
anyway, let the insults fly, because i know for sure you won't actually think about it.
