I love Zebra so much.

My Virus Ti is going on ebay tommorrow because of it.

If I had one request it would be distortion... - but thats ALL. I hadnt spent the proper amount of time with it (stuck on filterscape) ...but now that I have Im so hooked.

Urs-make a sampler!

Post

Thanks!

Distortion... are the Shaper modules too lame?

Sampler: Next Big Project, if all goes well, but a few small gems inbetween!

Cheers,

;) Urs

So does that mean one should hold off on Ableton's Sampler?????
All of your stuff makes my ears so happy.
Zebralette may just get to make an appearance with an orchestra this weekend.

Aha! Some serious competition for Kontakt in the future U-he pipelines?

By the time it's ready I hope to have mastered my copy of Zebra2 (yes, I need quite some time for that  ).
The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.

Well, don't get too excited just now. I neither want to compete with NI nor Ableton. I just want to make a sampler that justifies its name, rather than having to call it "sample playback plugin". And it's probably more than a year away from today...

I like the shaper modules for what they are to add some edge to a sound, but they are not capable of distortion. A dedicated distortion module would be sweet.

Yep,+1 vote for Distortion !!
Samplitude 9

Urs, i really hope that you can grow your business without becoming a NI-type of company with world-domination marketing ambitions (yes I'm a disappointed customer).

Any plan for further improvements of Zebra? I really hope for a better Presets folder management in Windows, support of scripting language modules for real-time manipulation, & more ... ideas that you mentioned during the development but that couldn't make into the current release.

I agree with Dave, all your stuff is soooo amaaaazing that I'm curios about what a Urs-sampler would look & sound like.

Hahaha, no plans for that. I'm a coder, musician and designer. I have no ambitions ending up as a supervisor for all of my workerbees ;)

Dude, the scripting is already in. Not for realtime tasks yet, but already for wicked SmartPresets. I just gotta write a manual/homepage/tutorial for it...

Further additions planned (free 2.x updates):

- of course, improvements to the user experience, including better file handling etc. on Win and Mac
- XMF (Cross Modulation Filter, aka Xtreme MothaFucka) - the hottest filter algo I have heard, ever, needs more fine tuning before prime time
- skin support
- Signature Preset Banks (either customers only or commercial banks, depending on the deal with the patch designers)
- Webinterface (upload/download of presets) and u-he Userweb
- realtime extensions to scripting, i.e. event based modifiers, algorithmical osc waveform generators, scripted modulators, behaviours
- some more stuff, such as the inavoidable TranceGate effect

Then (Z3? - rough ideas of what could be done):

- Playback module for u-he sampler
- SysEx import for certain items in the crossgrade gallery
- some more mini-Zebras?
- i.e. ZebDrum: Drum module based on Zebrapresets
- ...

Just DO NOT ASK WHEN - it's not even sure *if* for most ideas 8)

Cheers,

Now that listing is a good showcase of your enthousiasm!! I'll patiently wait and see what other vst-goodies you will actually give birth to. For now and for a very long time to go I'll find myself diving into Zebra, so from my side no need for other marvelous new products yet.
Great to see Zebra having some real nice future enhancements! :)

Be careful about Signature PRESETS. In my mind, presets are hard to sell (as they will necessarily only sell to a fraction of the original user base).

Instead, think about Signature SYNTHS something like Triple Cheese but tailored to each individual designer.

I don't even want to know! There is so much to learn and great sounds to discover just with Zebra 2 as it is!

Urs:

Would creating extra modules for Zebra, such as wav file playback, live audio input, distortion, then making each one an optional paid for add-on work for your current business model (and zebra's architecture?) Kind of like how you'd need to buy each piece of a modular synth. I really want that sample playback capability asap, but it seems like zebra could be quite expandable in many different ways.

Post

Zach, I could do that, but my business model is selling Zebras (my study shows that it has only reached 10% of it's market potential yet), not add-on modules and the support that comes with it ("Uh, that preset sounds weird..." - "Yeah, you havn't purchased that module xy that's used in the preset"). I'd rather put them in for free for every user, at the time that I have them 8)

I'd agree there (mainly just to reduce confusion), though where to draw the line and decide "ok, thats it for v2" is a tough one. Unless Urs wants to switch to eating bread and water :-) The cool thing is that you sound as excited as everybody else (even after a year and a half or so of developing it) and have lots of ideas for something that is so open to expansion.
