I just don't get relationship some users have with a DAW, acting almost like jilted ex-lovers, only participating to snipe.

I mean, if not liking Reason anymore, why not focus on the new DAW of choice, instead of raining on others parade.

How will the use of refills be affected by VST accessability. I mean, with users being able to load Kontakt or other sampler VST's, will refills die off?

I hope not!! I love refills

Which third party vendor got the best deal on upgrading to Reason 9 at this time?

In cart the upgrade is $109.65 at JJR shop.

I'd like to see (at least the option to have) as many CV inputs as there are automatable (CC controllable) parameters for any given VST plugin. I suppose that could start to look daunting on the back of the rack module if say; the plugin has 512 automatable parameters, but I wonder if there's a way to address the matter elegantly. Maybe a way to create more inputs? Or have I missed that what I want is currently an option? It didn't seem to be the case when I watched the promo video. Admittedly it's been a while that I used Reason. It nevertheless still has some attraction to me interface-wise.

He claims to love Reason, but hates the people who make it and anybody else who also likes Reason or Propellerheads. carrying that amount of cognitive dissonance and self loathing can make one extremely cranky.

On the other hand, if we just ignore him, he'll just be a crazed butthurt propellerhead troll talking to himself. which is all he really is anyway.

I LOVE Reason ! Never made any secret about that.

It is quite normal to be possessive when it comes to LOVE.

Well, to use your analogy (which is riddled with flaws, but I'll push on), it's like I'm married to a wonderful, beautiful man, but I can't stand his parents. In this case, Reason is my lover, and Ernst is his father.

It's not uncommon to slag off the in-laws !

Seems like a nice addition for the Reason diehards and people looking to make music on a budget. Get great value for the $400, and can make up for Reason's weaknesses with additional VSTs.

SW: Cubase 9.5 | Komplete 11 | Omnisphere 2 | Perfect Storm 2.5 | Soundtoys 5
HW: Steinberg UR28M | Focal Alpha 50 | Fender Jazz Bass | Alesis VI25

I for one am pretty excited. The VST implementation seems very good. There are even a couple plugins that work exactly as they are supposed to, something I've never seen them do in any other DAW. And I have most of the well known ones.

I'm not a hardcore Reason fan, I have always enjoyed it though. I can definitely say that the VST thing makes it much more interesting, to me anyway.

Don't know if I would pay the full upgrade price for it, but I would certainly consider it during a sale. Which tbh, is the only reason I'm not in that boat right now.

YMMV.

Open vst gui, error box, tune knob, error box, don't do anything, error box jumps out all the time. Abort, retry, ignore, not matter what you press, all same. This is way too buggy atm. Feels more like early alpha than beta.

Once you get it to open, go to your preferences and disable all of your plugin directories. Now, create a new plugin directory just for reason. Start copying some of your plugins in one by one.

It is almost certainly specific plugins or combinations of plugins that are causing issues. This is a beta, it's not released software. Why people expect betas to be as stable as released software is beyond me. If you don't want to help with the beta testing, then why would you sign up for it? Compatibility with specific plugins is almost certainly going to be something that Props can't test by themselves completely in short order, they've only just implemented this.

Start adding your plugins to your new folder and report bugs when something consistently causes problems.

With just a few stable plugins I get a good load and the problems of stuck dialog boxes go away. With just Reaktor 5 and my Eventide plugins, it's loading great and running just fine. Also keep in mind that this is a logging version so the performance will definitely not be up to par.

Yikes!

Couple this with the Spire release: not good.

I think I'll be taking the ol' "wait and see" before upgrading.

Thanks, keel.

KarmaShaman wrote:The whole debacle in the past 24 hours with Spire RE is indicative of the half-arsed way in which Propellerhead operate, and I'm sure this will carry over into the implementation of VST as well. For those watching at home

Reveal Sound have been teasing for a LONG time to release Spire as a Rack Extension. It gets launched yesterday in the Propellerhead shop (in which they take a hefty commission of all sales). A plethora of bugs are discovered by buyers & triallers such as it being OUT OF TUNE (FFS this is supposed to be a high end musical instrument), CPU overload on automation parameters, plus parameters that aren't even automatable, a front screen artwork that still says 'Preview Model' or something along those lines, bugger-all CV on the back.

The whole inception of a closed-loop model for plugins and a store exclusively controlled by Propellerheads was for reliability. I have to ask the question.. IS ANYONE AT PROPELLERHEADS EVEN TESTING NEW RE'S FOR VIABILITY ???

In this case, clearly they are not.

This mess is yet another example of the poor quality of staff. Heads should roll, people need to be fired. It's long overdue. And the problem starts not with the lowest paid workers, but those who manage them. Ernst is on the way out regardless, but every single MANAGER there needs to be given the boot. They've faked their way into positions with a smile and a BJ, but the jig is up. Get them all the hell out, and then Reason may actually move in a positive direction at a pace that is reasonable instead of these drip-fed releases.

And guess who's been all over Spire like crabs on a hooker's gooch ? The company's dearest darling Enochlight, who hasn't said 'boo' about this release being a PROPELLERHEAD screw up as much, nay MORE than Reveal Sounds'. Maybe to a tone-deaf user, an out of tune synth is OK, even though at full price it was set to be one of the most expensive REs in the entire store.
Haha lol I will give you $2 for that. Good job.

That's probably the best thing for most users. That said, I think that his post is a bit over the top. I suspect that there area few very significant bugs that manifest in particular ways. What I've noticed is that if you get a dialog during startup as the result of plugin errors, that Reason has not loaded normally. For me, the meters wouldn't work. Once I started with a much smaller collection of plugins I did not have that instability, nor any modal dialogs.
