Yeah it’s all automatic - my workstation is just 10 years old and it takes time to cache the high-res assets initially. But once it’s done one time, they’re there forever for a particular device at whatever particular zoom level you’re working in.starflakeprj wrote: Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:15 pmDo you have to load them manually? Have I missed something? I thought you could just resize and the hi-res GUI was loaded automatically?EnochLight wrote: Mon Jul 12, 2021 7:01 pm Me waiting for the high-res assets to load that very first time...

Not really that big of a deal, actually.

I hope nobody is sucked into Reason+ by these offers, and it will soon join the ranks of Record, Allihoopa, Thor for iPad, PX7, Balance, Reload, the name Propellerhead, ReBirth, their forums, ReWire, Line 6 amps, A-List Rack Extensions, Europa VST, Reason Suite and Intro etc.

I agree it's not a big deal at all and it looks fabulous once its done....BUT....It may not be a good first impression for people looking at Reason again after a break or for the first time.

When you put it like this it is thoroughly depressing. A great forward thinking business with killer products: Recycle, Rebirth, Reason. Record was a fascinating tool and rolling it into Reason should have been the mistake they learned from.Dalle wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 11:52 am I hope nobody is sucked into Reason+ by these offers, and it will soon join the ranks of Record, Allihoopa, Thor for iPad, PX7, Balance, Reload, the name Propellerhead, ReBirth, their forums, ReWire, Line 6 amps, A-List Rack Extensions, Europa VST, Reason Suite and Intro etc.
I think perhaps they were too ahead of their time with Reason and they are still battling the legacy architecture in a modern world and now they don't have the business model, desire or leadership to force the rewrite that it basically needed.
Subscription payments and the ease of not worrying about the DAW bits (sequencer really) and the private equity push means that I don't think I will ever be going back to propellerhead land which is really sad for me having been a rebirth user and having owned Reason from day 1.
At least there is archive.org where you can remind yourself how cutting edge and open they once were.

All fair points, but missing one important factor. Reason is still one of the best music making programs available, it is unique and incredibly inspiring. As a VST Rack or as the full DAW, it is still one of the very best music making tools you can put on a computer...so they haven't done so bad.
Personally, I think the future looks very bright for Reason (subscription or stand alone); the HD thing they just had to get 'out of the way' but the last few rack instruments they put out are as good as any VST I have come across and their players just get more interesting. I cant see anyone with an interest in electronic music not at least wanting the Rack as a VST and VST FX in their DAW of choice or within Reason Studio.

I loved Reason how it was, yeah the sequencer could use an update but I'm sure it will be here soon. Tried Reason+ for $3 and it was smooth sailing, no issues for me. But I have all of the sounds that I would need so I probably won't continue the trial after the 3 months. I like the hi-res update so far, I think RS has done a really good job. I can see clearly now the rain is gone...
Idk if its just me but the sequencer isn't as Hi-res or something. I feel like the next .5 update has to be a sequencer update and the features will probably go to Reason+ first.

The sequencer isn't Hi-res yet- but it will happen at some point- as you say, doesn't look to bad anyway, but the transport bar needs a make over and to be not resized with the rack....
I have Reason 11 studio (and a free update top 12) so I doubt I will continue with subscription either, but IO am enjoying access to the few instruments I don't won and can collect all the sound packs

Aah, thanks, I thought I had missed a vital thing that you needed to do while in beta. Just started R12 quickly yesterday, had no delay in loading the hi-res asssets. But my computer is well over average so..EnochLight wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 11:49 amYeah it’s all automatic - my workstation is just 10 years old and it takes time to cache the high-res assets initially. It's one of the reasons I stick around. I own several other DAW and none of them inspire me like Reason does still.
Truth. The doom-and-gloom naysayers have been preaching the demise of Reason for well over a decade, yet... it's still here and keeps getting better. Yeah, Props/RS had some clear missteps, but their flagship (read: only) product that matters is still here.SLiC wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 1:05 pm Personally, I think the future looks very bright for Reason (subscription or stand alone); the HD thing they just had to get 'out of the way' but the last few rack instruments they put out are as good as any VST I have come across and their players just get more interesting. My biggest wish is to be able to resize the rack and its rack extensions separately from the rest. When I'm running at 140%, I feel the rack extensions are as large as I would like, but then I think the sequencer and the navigation part is a tad to large. When I go down to 120%, i believe it's the other way aroundSLiC wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 1:32 pm The sequencer isn't Hi-res yet- but it will happen at some point- as you say, doesn't look to bad anyway, but the transport bar needs a make over and to be not resized with the rack....

Agreeing with SLiC and EnochLight, Reason is a really competent DAW that houses a more tools (synths, effects and more) out of the box than any other DAW. Everything your need, you have in Reason. Sure, the lack if MIDI features and the slow developing of the sequencer are upsetting a lot of people, but I guess a DAW can't be best in all areas. Reason isn't my primary DAW, but I would say it's my secondary at least. I have more fun in Reason, but I get more done in Studio One.

Where's the upgrade price?

- 2302 posts since 21 Mar, 2012 from Nom..nom.. YOUR MOM
Same place it's always been. But you can't upgrade to 12 if you're a perpetual license holder just yet, because it's not out until September 2021. Only Reason+ subscribers get early access. If you upgrade from any version of Reason pre-11 right now, you just get 11 and a free upgrade to 12 once it launches in September. If you're on 11 perpetual right now, your only option is to wait or to try Reason+ for the 333 deal offer (which ends in a day or two).

well, I also do not see why reason should be far behind - for the UI the might be further than most other sequencers now. Seems even today new DAWs get developed without a concept for UI scaling. I mean HiRes in VST-land is still a mess (with Cubase, Bitwig, Notion at least)
The sequencer is missing some stuff, but that is also true for other DAWs. Others offer implementations which feel awkward (e.g. articulation mapping in Cubase - some like it, some find it hard to use, no in-line midi editing in Logic, etc). Rack is unique and powerful, in the future maybe comfortable to use.
Reason, as Bitwig, is a tool in the toolbox which has stuff to offer you do not find with every other DAW. It is a worthwhile addition to other sequencers. That is not USP shared by too many others.
just my 2cents
