I love porta fm, i think it's the best sounding softsynth i have. I'd love something like a mirage emulation or anything with interesting oscillators and an decent filter... i think plogue could make the best sounding synth this way... Would rather something like this or a sampler from you but am still interested to see what the chip series brings, tho i feel like portafm is enough for me in terms of simple synths.

That synth is one of the best software purchases i've made, I've sampled it so many times.

I so well share your passion here :)

I agree. PortaFM is amazing. I wish we could modulate the carrier envelope though (like we can in MD). MD with PortaFM sound engine would be amazing.

Just a more fleshed out synth with more controls, with an on par sound quality would be amazing, not even necessarily the same sound!

It just sounds so much better in the mix than most, if not all other soft synths!

Post

I totally agree.

I have to say, the idiosyncratic and at times unpredictable envelope behavior really helps make PortaFM one of the most characterful synthesizers.

Yeah, agreed. I won’t even try to program hardware FM synths from their panels.....
me either....FM in general...at least from scratch. I just edit stock or custom patches and hope my random tweaks bring something good out of it.

I just can't wrap my head around the way yamaha implemented FM

I'm having a good time programing an old PSS-580, 2 op FM synth. Limited parameters, and only 5 memory slots for custom presets, but FUN. This experience is helping me to better understand how FM works.

I just saw this posting from Impact Soundworks: viewtopic.php?p=7788067#p7788067

It made we wonder how much longer before Plogue's chipsynth 64 is released.

Thats interesting. A SID doesn't have as many registers like typical FM synths to make this interesting, but I'll think of something. We are putting final touches on our :SNES: one right now (chipsynth SFC)
however.
