Funny that without the FX section, I could make a few decent sounding (for me at least) presets with those envelopes and layering and stuff

I suggest investing some time into partial presets because they can really be useful. This is a feature with power :P
So people wouldn't need tons and tons of sample presets
So, it seems you are having the same cache problems I am experiencing in my XP machine too.
Are you able to start the standalone? Mine crash upon trying to start the MIDI interface - I wonder if it's because I have a pair of emagic amt8. So many MIDI ports are hardly seen these days, specially in the PC world.

I tried standalone 2 times... But ended up using Ableton cause it is far more ergonomic. For me, the Midi interface is always on for my 88-key fatar

Does the Fatar connect directly or are you using some kind of MIDI interface? How many MIDI ports do you have in total?

Hi fellows,

I'm still debugging the crasher bug. It has to do with changing the engine buffer size (from 32 to 64 for instance). Will hopefuly nail it down tomorrow.

I had 2 crashes tonight with the stand-alone Beta17, both crashes occurring after trying to exit the program using File->Exit. Each time I had created a new preset, spent about 20 minutes changing many parameters (Oscs, Arp, filters, Mod, Env), but not tried to save it. I shall try a similar flow tomorrow with the VST.

I have yet to be able to even play Synthmaster2.

I use a m-audio fast track for portable and a presonus firestudio project for studio. In both cases, I load synthmaster (both stand-alone and vsti in a variety of sequencers/DAWs) and it tells me (every time) that it needs to create waveforms because it is the 1st time I am running it. Then it takes some time to do something (I assume create waveforms) and then the beginning GUI comes up. Synthmaster then complains that my buffer size is not divisible by 2 and crashes. All of my other software and vsti's work fine with both hardware on two machines, so I am not changing my buffer sizes.

Synthmaster1 plays fine in the same systems with the same hardware.

Just thought i'd let you know.

Mike

The crash on exit has to do with changing the engine buffer size.

Is there any way you can change the buffer size of your device from its ASIO control panel?

BTW, there is a configuration file named SythMasterConfig.txt under the Config folder. It's a text file. Just open it and find following line:

Use MME Devices Only=No

Change it to:

Use MME Devices Only=Yes

And save. Now you should be able to use SynthMaster standalone with only MME devices (No ASIO). Your ASIO driver is causing the trouble I guess. If it allows you to change the buffer size to a multiple of 16, then it'd work too.

I think I fixed the crasher! Just testing to make sure. One line of code change can cause big trouble and cause you at least 8 hours to debug :D

Hey guys, I have some important questions:

1. About envelope behavior in Mono+Legato mode: Should we reset envelopes to the beginning of attack section if a note was previously playing and it was in sustain state?

2. About FX: I will fix the chorus issues first. After that I will fix the Filterbank. Then I will probably add Phaser, BitCrusher/LoFi. Then I might change the reverb a little bit. All of those would delay the release day 2-3 weeks. Do you think the FX should be improved as soon as possible?

I don't know if you had the time to check that problem of the apparent second attack upon release. If yes and you fixed, it, great.
Regarding FX, IMO the most important FX in a synth are chorus and delay. Filterbank and Phaser... maybe. Reverb, only if it is really good, otherwise, I prefer dealing with delay. Bitcrusher was never something appealing to me. I'd rather have some kind of more common distortion FX like saturation, overdrive, etc. (or waveshaping). For now, I would concentrate on a good delay and chorus, and leave the rest for an update.

I honestly don't think the FX (although you're reverb is quite unique) need any serious upgrading, unless they cater heavily to the synths sound. Synthmaster is sooooooo complete already. I don't know how heavily people rely on inbuilt FX; maybe that's a question you should ask... I honeslty still haven't had the time to go through it like I'd like, especially with the importing functions

Synthmaster needs in-built EQ, compressor, proper chorus/reverb, ability to do different kinds of delay, distortion, and a master filter. And one important thing is: It needs to offer effect routing. It matters if I put that EQ in front of the Chorus or behind it...
Of course filling these requests take a lot of time and effort... :S

In my opinion, implementing the stable basic sound is more important than starting redesigning the effects. It is a vast amount of work.
I think stabilizing and finalizing the core voicing is more important. Like fixing waveshapers, the unison (as I alredy said hundreds of times :D), reducing phasing wherever is possible, and so on...

Btw I don't know if it's a bug or it is disabled, but I couldn't route audio into Synthmaster in ableton. Another 'request': Synthmaster should be able to use midi when used as FX. Like you use an external plugin, you route the audio and midi into Synthmaster, then you'd be able to use every envelope and modulation available.

Which waveshapers?
