I believe this was summed up a couple decades ago or so as the "Greater Internet F**kwad Theory":

anonymity + large audience = flaming a-hole
A well-behaved signature.

Or like this one guy who outright calls people idiots here, apparently with the mods blessing since he's been doing it for years now.

I didn't say that. :(

 :tu: 100%. If folk don't like something or a company then move along and post something more positive about something else.
This kind of response never really makes any sense when anyone says it. It essentially amounts to "don't criticize anything ever". No one is entitled to dictate the flow of a conversation or whether people stay in it just because they don't personally like to see any complaints about the thing they like.

People who write off any and all dissent as easily-dismissable "hate" from "haters" in any conversation aren't really saying anything.
Except that the current social attitudes lend more to "hate" being the "tail that wags the dog" . The drug of choice of indignation searching for things to attach it to.
Dissent and constructive criticism not often being inclusively intertwined.
One is a component of critical thinking. The other is the absence of it.
Sure, in places that have algorithms specifically designed to feed off vitriol, but it's a bit different on an internet forum where nobody here is trying to be incendiary for the sake of clicks on a video. Part of critical thinking is knowing when "hate" actually is hate, versus when it's just an opinion someone doesn't want to see. People too often mistake the latter for the former.

Still not mutually exclusive. It's true there are a few people here who are adversarial and pedantic to the point of it probably being an actual mental disorder. It's shocking how they can ruin a thread with bad takes obsessed on some tiny detail.

But the idea people shouldn't voice criticism, or that it has to be curated to always be super polite and "both sides" is bs. Watch any youtube about a synth these days and see how many go, "You know, I don't think they really put their heart into this and it feels like a cash grab. And if it's not, It's just not up to the standards of these other synths. There's way better options and I'd pass on this". It just doesn't happen, and it's wrong. It shows people are so obsessed with losing corporate product loans or losing viewers so they refuse to say what they really think. If mainstream internet thrives on controversy for views, the online music world is the EXACT opposite.

Forums are the last bastion against influencers, synthfluencers, and the self-censorship people do on mainstream social media. There's such a weird dichotomy; any current event in the news is instantly divided into talking points, often pushed by bots or people so deep in extreme (often bot-originating) mindsets that every comment lacks nuance, but in the online synth world, it's lacking nuance in the opposite way- It ranges from "game-changing" to an opinionless manual review, or a cheap quick demo because they are just producing content, or maybe a lackluster "It's pretty good, just not for me". That spectrum is lacking one whole side of it.

The idea people shouldn't express negativity is WRONG. I'll give my nuanced but negative take. Mercury 6 sounded so good I was wondering if the design was tricking me, because most of their other products did not sound half as good. Someone told me in the past year or two, quality has gone way up. So there you go. It's possible Cherry Audio has some good products, but probably too many, and many probably are reskins with existing parts.

For the price, "some" probably get you most of the way there. But they are not u-he, softube, g-force, UAD level of component modeling.

That was a well-thought out, reasonable, thoughtfully-written post without hyperbole, straw-man arguments, polarised opinions, put-downs or a clear intent to win the thread.

Are you sure you posted to the right forum? ;)

The key in music as in life is balance.
Some praise, some critics.
No passion is bland, too much fire burns.
Cherry Audio synths give me lots of joy, I really love Elka & Dreamsynth.
Also, the biggest obstacle to making music, aside from GAS, is too many pointless lengthy debates ;)
Balance...
Time to load a CA synth and fly ;)
