Omnisphere arrived yesterday. No signature was required, so it didn't matter that I wasn't home to greet UPS. Install was fast, 10 min. per disc (Mac Pro), authorizing and updating was smooth.
I had been getting concerned because non of the user demos I've heard were speaking to me, and I was beginning to wonder if this was going to be "just another synth".
Well, I started with multis, and no worries. This is going to be fantastic. I typically first identify the useful (for my style) and musical patches with a new synth. In the case of Omnishpere, it would probably be more effective to identify sounds that are not useful! (There are just too many useful ones).

Cubase SX3 definately works with Omnisphere using all cores of the CPU. I too have a Q6600 Quad and it works fine. You have to enable multiprocessing in Cubase SX3.kuniklo wrote:Ableton and Logic certainly do. I prepared my PC for the onslaught of Omnisphere and I'm glad I did because I don't think running it on my old P4 3GHz would have even happened.
I'm more annoyed with my sound card at the moment. M-audio 2496, lost configuration and completely crashed out of Cubase and even wiped off the project I had saved. Unbelievable, if it's not one thing its another.

Now, I don't read instruction manuals very often so I let everything become a surprise. I just discovered the Live mode accessing two patches at the same time with a simple program change you can select any of 16 combinations. Wow.any1particular wrote:Thank you Ned & Topaz....

At 3:02 in that section - I'm busting up laughing it's frickin sweet. I assume the hysterical laughing instrument is actually not Omnisphere, sounds like guitar to me, but the track is butt-smackin funky. Love it.-

Load up 8 patches into multi. Then go into Live mode.
Click on the keyboard symbol on the top left of the screen. You will then see your first selection of patch highlighted in blue and your second patch in white on the right. There will also be two sets of program change buttons. One for the left four patches and the other for the right. So, it stacks two patches together for which you can easily flick through and you can program the program change buttons with your midi controller so Live mode truley is Live and you need never touch the mouse again.
I think this is pretty cool, among many things like the zoom functions into the modulation matrix, you are faced with 24 programmable parameters and then a page right for another 24.
The mod envelopes are totally awesome with some really useful rhythmic presets.
I'm just totally immersed in this. I used to hate programming synths but this is so easy and very inspiring.
