Sheet One was great. I stopped listening to Hawtin after "Closer"; you can probably still find my snarky review of it on Amazon.

no doubt more people choose simplerGRUMP wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 10:56 pmThanks for reminding me that there are modules for everything. That is right. sequencing/sound sources/modulation/fx processing
it's all available in modular.
probably not gonna do many full live sets with several distinct tracks involving repatching though
but even as you suggest, sampling grooves is also doable with even a small modular set up.
richie/deadmau5 and a few others use them that i know of, and in all different ways. it's just another "weapon in the arsenal"![]()
I was curious what he does today. Discogs - 2020 ... "Time Warps".... Youtube... thin "Rotterdam kick"-opening - and he shall please prove that I´m wrong, but the depressing synthax I´ve heard afterwards reminded me of VSTs of the 2005-Generation. He´d have wasted his money if he´d really have bought a mudular system to make such tracks.
I´m one of those Nihilists who still don´t know what "analogue" shall really be and know for sure that everybody means different things with that term - but I´ve heard and made enough already to know that you don´t need much more than Reason to make such a "flatliner".
Btw really disappointed of the development this man has made. He´s sold the spirit![]()
im not even trying to suggest anyone should try modular to make techno.
but you asked how it is done, i gave you some possible methods
it's not something id choose to do totally in modular, it would take a hell of a lot of programming and patching, plus a pretty big system, to have it play back a full track, with changes and "the drop"
if i was going to try techno type stuff (i won't, can't) I'd go for sampling loops and hits. and probably arrange it in a software sequencer

As we both know - not always. We´d eat tins of corned beaf all day if the world would be that easy. But we´re not here to catch all the complexity of this rotten place in a box, so ...
And I forgot once again that there´s a module for everything these days. "Modular" is as big as human need for validityvurt wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 7:23 pm im not even trying to suggest anyone should try modular to make techno.

I can just speak about what I have seen so far - knowing that some people are different. But piles of unread manuals, "trial and error" methodology and well known "habits" are far spread among this population - as well as the need to be seen with technology that would never have been if we all (still) were ravers!^^vurt wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 7:23 pm it's not something id choose to do totally in modular, it would take a hell of a lot of programming and patching, plus a pretty big system, to have it play back a full track, with changes and "the drop"type moments.

number of plays on soundcloud would suggest there's at least a few.telecode wrote: Mon Jan 11, 2021 7:55 pmwow. does anyone listen to this type of music still?highkoo wrote: Mon Jan 11, 2021 5:11 pm Fwiw, Re: Hawtin,

There was quite a lot of nostalgia servicing going on last year because loads of 30s and 40 somethings started listening to music again during lockdown. If you look at the top Loopmasters packs and some of the Beatport tracks there's quite a bit of 90s stuff around.

There’s good and bad 90’s stuff , I consider early plastikman as the good stuff .
If you’re into guitar rock stuff ( like you are)..it might sound all the same to you

I just thought techno died in the 90s and morphed and was replaced by more modern branches of EDM like D&B and Shrillex stuff. I wasn't a techno raver in the 90s -- so I wouldn't know I guess.highkoo wrote: Wed Jan 13, 2021 2:30 am Its kind of funny that someone making guitar rock would ask if people are 'still' listening to 4/4 electronic music.![]()

Yes, it's amazing people are still playing jazz, too.
By the way, drum n bass IS 90s music
But I guess I have no idea what happened to guitar music after Sub Pop, so you know - swings and roundabouts.
