Funny. I thought the same. Very strange decision there. All should be default.Caine123 wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 8:24 am also the search is kinda more cumbersome? it should always show ALL if you want and not have you always select a category.

To the first part - do you mean the controls that were under the wavetable / sample? Yes, definitely a bit more clicking there.Caine123 wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 8:24 am just had a quick test and will play more later, i need to compare the GUI of Omni 2 vs 3 but i find you have to click more now? you dont see the part overview asap which i love in omni 2 to adjust the settings.
also the search is kinda more cumbersome? it should always show ALL if you want and not have you always select a category.
The second one - this is real Achilles Heel of Omni 3 and I suspect users are just beginning to wake up to it. The new full browser is an absolute mess. The basic search box is buried away where you can't see it, and when you do select it is taking up 5% of a huge empty rectangle. It remains active even when you can't see it. Utterly bizarre and user-unfriendly decision.
Then the search all option is horrendous - there's two conflicting tagging standards that are sat on top of one another now, in my install it even threw up deprecated categories with no patches from any library at all. Even if you just own Spectrasonics stuff, whereas you used to be able to search them all simultaneously and effortlessly, you are now limited to each separate product. You can't even search all your third party libraries - you can only pick one at a time.
For users with a lot of other Spectrasonics, user or 3rd party content, this is a hellscape. It is a HUGE step backwards from a user-experience perspective.

Hellscape... man, you just gave me an idea for a less than gentle soundset. If I ever come around to do it - please remind me and I'll send you a copy as a thanks for the inspiration.noiseboyuk wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 8:37 am You can't even search all your third party libraries - you can only pick one at a time.

Back to the subject. As much as I am a manic fanboy when it comes to Spectrasonics (damn I MUST find the old Ethno Techno sample CD) - organising stuff in Omni has always been its weakest part. I was hoping that they would nuked the whole tagging system and built a new one from the ground up, it's a total clusterduck. No one needs 100+ tags. That just makes things more complicated.

Given how much work you and Mark put in to solving these issues, would it really have hurt them to reach out to both of you to, at the very least, pick your brains for organisational ideas?
What a huge and unnecessary step backwards

Well that was never going to happen, but what gets me is they made it much worse for their OWN users, never mind us troublesome interlopers.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 9:21 amHow depressing!! This is quite the eff up!

And it seems completely unecessary to me. Most of the directory changes are pretty arbitrary - Hits and Bits changed to Hits + Bits for example. But overall it seems to me they've used a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
The biggest problem with the old system is not being able to have more than one category for each patch. That's always been kinda dumb. But that's so easily fixable while keeping everything else the same - internally just add an "additional category" field to the database. And their 18 curated directories are just another field. No biggie.
Instead they threw it all out, but only for Omni 3. All their other stuff is still the original system. No doubt it will all migrate eventually, but it's essentially several years of unnecessary road construction with all their customers caught up in the traffic jam.
There are ABSOLUTELY things they can do to at least make things a lot less bad. I'm gonna make a list...

Anyone having an issue with individual layer racks within a patch. All four layer buttons illuminated and cant select an individual layer rack. Aux and Common racks are fine.
Entirely possible ive missed something.
Sorry guys, I did miss something. In the Patch/Main tab, i forgot the Common/Independant layer routing selector. Sanity restored.

Yes, I was amazed there were no MPE pre-sets especially as they showed such a lot of demonstrations on the Osmose (who have done amazing libraries all set up for Phase Plant, Flacon, Dune etc). It was a bit misleading to demo it this way I think.sacer wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 9:33 am I was hoping to play all Omni Patches on MPE or at least some MPE libraries, but they only added MPE as Modulation option - very disapointed

Regarding the new browser, I don't remember v2 to compare, but didn't find the browsing to be all that cumbersome. Admittedly I mostly stayed within the smaller side browser because the full one seemed way over the top. Saving a preset though? Eeeeeshh.
By the time I got done figuring out the layout and going through all the tagging I forgot to name my preset and ended up saving it as 'Default'.
Then I couldn't figure out how to rename it without manually finding and changing it via my OS filesystem. I'm sure there's a way and I probably could have RTFM'd or asked Gemini AI (who already seems to have ingested the manual), but really painful experience there regardless.

I believe there is full MPE support, the demos with Osmose looked really good- you just have to map everything (X, Y Z etc) yourself for every patch it seems- no pre-m pped MPE pre-sets (unlike Falcon etc) so no instant gratification! Maybe expresivee (Osmose) will sell a set of Osmose presets like they did for other VSTs...aMUSEd wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 10:52 amDo they at least support poly aftertouch?SLiC wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 10:44 amYes, I was amazed there were no MPE pre-sets especially as they showed such a lot of demonstrations on the Osmose (who have done amazing libraries all set up for Phase Plant, Flacon, Dune etc). Seems extremely shortsighted. Not only are you both customers/users, but you've also been privy to the suggestions and feedback of other users.
