Suggestion for routing.

Ah, you mean a mixer. ;)

You're right that it doesn't add all that much... just thinking aloud... you have to admit, though, if you put yourself into the perspective of a complete newbie, "use this track as a device" and then having a corresponding icon makes a heck of a lot of sense.

The way it is right now, if/when the newbie DOES discover the current functionality, the next logical thing that they ALWAYS seem to attempt to do is record audio coming from the source track, but with the current system, "Track 3" isn't actually being fed into "Track 5", it's actually being fed into the beginning of "Track 5"'s filter section.

Perhaps what we really need is a new option to display a selected track's routing as some funky graphic arrow arrangement..?

No, definately not. I can't stand mixers and the absence of one is one of the main reasons I love Tracktion. I thought I'd just emphasise that in case you get the wrong idea.

Yes, which is what I was envisioning with my "mix-rack" idea. pHz described it well as a "giant master patch bay filter", but with the flexibility of racks for putting in vsts as well('though maybe just keeping it simple as a patch bay would be better - avoid trying to be all things to all men) :?:

I think after viewing all these posts and made myself think it over, better labeling and a new sidechain plugin would be sufficient. This plugin when inserted to a track or rack would then be available as a rack input track input or key input on supported processors. A audio thru button would stop the signal from going thru it if the signal is used for key input purposes only. There would have to be able to use a number of these sidechainers, not like TC sidechainer which only supports two.

Then it wouldn't break subgrouping or the left to right main thought.

maybe not graphic errors, but maybe colors in the trackname might help :)

like green green green

then the routed track would have a green arrow by the name ?

bingo!

that always struck me as being really...daft

It's a touch daft, but part of the problem, the way I see it, is this:

If "Track 3" feeds right into the very beginning of "Track 5" (instead of the filter section), chaos would ensue. Pressing 'record' would ALWAYS record Track 3 into Track 5, when chances are good that you don't really want to.

That's why I think the option of ALSO being able to enable a track as an 'input device' would work for certain functions which aren't currently possible.
