Nooooooooooooooooooo! You don't regret selling that gear? They've been overused a lot but I remember fiddling with a friend's 808 once and it sounded real good. Judging by the 2 dates, you should be able to buy another sh101 + tr-808 in 2006.Dazza66 wrote:What i've used in the past:
Casio VL-Tone (no, really) -1979
SH-101 + TR-808 - 1982
Drumulator - 1994
Another SH-101 + TR-808 - 1994
Jupiter-6 - 1995 (sold all the hardware by 2001)

Oh I see - people are giving more information:
Mid 1980s - studio work at University ... all hardware, cutting up bits of tape, etc. And using the Fairlight
Some time later: Atari/Cubase > then gave up on the whole idea of using computers to make music!
Mid 1990s: Yamaha hardware
Early 2000s: Cubase VST5
2003: Cubase SX1 + Live 2 + Reason 2
2003-4: Tracktion 1 + Reason 2.5 (not Live). Still searching for something with better workflow... sense of being in transition...
Now: Ableton Live 5, Reason, Adobe Audition. Very Happy Bunny at last
Throughout: Subelius 1, 2, 3... and now I need to fork out for 4

Some crappy cutdown version of something on the floppy with a magazine (don't remember anymore)
eJay Studio (midi sequencer, not those LEGO toys)
Some crappy thing with my Evolution keyboard
Muzys until 3.14 (still use it)
eXT (trying to get to grips)

Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

I bought one of the first Roland VS880s in about '96, and got a second hand Atari + Cubase so I could automate the mixer. Price: 1 pint of Guinness

Mine was Cubasis AV from a Computer Music disc, then Evolution Audio Lite. I currently use Babya Logic and Logic 5.x (what MAGIX Music Studio's MIDI Studio is based on).

1) 1981:
2 portable mono musicassette recorders and an acoustic guitar
---
1987: While I played guitar with the CFF, we used a portable mono musicassette recorder to tape rehearsals. One time we rented an old noisy PA to record a demo with. During the latter days of the band, our synth player left, and I got a Casio toy organ with built-in speakers and the equivalent of 1 GM kit under the hood (no velocity, no knobs, no editing sounds)
---
2) 1995:
Cubase Lite (like Atari Cubase) on a Pentium 120 (1995) (I also had 2 guitars by then, couldn't record them though: Cubase Lite was MIDI only. It had ONE editor: the Score Editor
)
3) Now: SX2, eXT.

Could it be one of these http://www.worldofspectrum.org/hardware/feat36.html? I used to have one. It was an 8 track midi only affair. Loaded from tape after a good few attempts, and was completely unreliable.kovacs wrote:I used some sort of drum software on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum...I don't remember the name...needless to say it was remarkable state of the art.
My first, uhm, "real" soft studio was Magix Studio 2003, which was replaced after about 2 days with FruityLoops. Now I use Live.

I think it was a progression of HybridArts EditTrack - Gold, then Platinum, on an ST, also PRO24, then Cubase. Around the same time I was using a Yamaha QY10 as well (which I still have and occasionally use!)
Break for many years, then got back into things over the last few years with CakewalkPA7, then NTrack and Podium.
It' much more fun now than back then. I prefer my music making to not be like riding the seat of one's pants the whole time..
