And back on topic, flangers are very common, and free.

But is there any effects plug-in that has chorus/flanger/delay/tremolo/vibrato all in the same plug? They are all based on the same ideas, and are variations of each other. Makes sense to make a multi-plug. Is there one around?

I'm just going to pop in with my 2cents and then quietly slip away:

- Free flangers are good'n'plentiful. Try Kjaerhus Classic (sp?)
- Fanatical belief in God is certainly a form of insanity. And worth mentioning in any context. Outside of that, faith is proven to be quite healthy, actually.

No, religion is belief in god.

If you want to turn this into a debate on semantics, then I would say you have this defintion wrong, at least the way the I observe the facts around me (to use your self-centered logic as stated in an earlier post).

Belief in God, to me, is defined as FAITH.

Religion is a set of rules, set down by man, to try to explain that faith in the best way they see fit.

When someone equates these two; the huge difference between FAITH and RELIGION; it indicates to me (again, using the logic that my own understanding of this is the right thing - like you stated before) that person has not experienced real FAITH. They may observe the wickedness of religion's doing, but they haven't experienced FAITH.

Now, back to the topic at hand...

Does anyone really use flanging effects all that much anymore? This is probably arrogant to state it in such a way, but when I hear flanging - I think of crappy guitar pedals from the late 70's.

-Scott
I'll use it on backing guitar parts to add a bit if extra movement. Plus a bit of 70s cheese now and then is not all bad. :D

Actually one of the best mixes I ever did had a very light flange on the whole mix over the last chorus of the song. It added some really nice energy when I got the sweep set in the right cadence with the music.

Wow what an interesting thread!

I must admit I was quite taken off gaurd the first time I saw your sig IIRs, Not because it I was unaware of the sentament or belief that your quote encapsules, but that you would use it in a music forum.

In my mind it would be the same if someone had an anti-gay sig or something - It is one person attacking the core beliefs of another.

I am no way offended personally by your statment, but it does alarm me that in Western thinking there is comming a toloration of bigitry towards religious people.

There are three very important points that I didn't see clearly made as I read through this form, so I will try to make them and then get back to making music:

1. Relegion is not the cause of any evil.
Religios or not people kill, people steel, people rape, people lie, people look down on others that are different and try to dominate them (and the list could go on and on) All religion is (at its best) is an attempt to change peoples bent toward evil, and instead turn them towards love and care for others.

People use guns to kill, they use positions of authority to rape, they will in fact use anything to try to justify their actions and perputrate their crimes.

Has religion been missused in the past for crimes? ABSOLUTELY . . .

But so has government! so do we revert to anarchy? Also lets not forget that the Soviet Union was based on atheism and look at their track record - Stallen killed millions of inocent people, and the country was so full of corruption that it still hasn't recovered. (by the way when the the union fell apart the first thing they asked for from the west was religious teaching to restore some kind of order!)

2. People who believe in God actually cope better in life than those who dont.

It doesn't take much reserch to find that many studies have shown that people with a strong belief in God cope better with the lose of a loved one, suffer less depression, have better sex lives, live substantially longer healthier lives, and are happier!

Just a few years ago my wife was reading one of her "girly magazines" and in it it listed all of the factors of living a longer happier life. It talked about exersizing regularly adding a couple years, eating right would add a couple more, haveing a dog even added a year to your life (on average), but the biggest factor was "being very religious" They defined this as those who read their bible regularly and prayed daily (this servey was done in the US so it was obviously biased to christianity). On average those that were "very religious" lived 14 years longer and in better overal mental and physical health.

In my line of work I deal with many people who are grieving the loss of a loved one so I try to keep well informed on how best to help those that are hurting. An artical I read recently quoted a study in the US that showed that those that are again very religious saved hundreds of millions of dolars in healthcare cost and are way less likely to need to get psyciatric help.

The way I see it we need God!

I would define a need as something that If I go without I will suffer a loss both in quantity and quality of life. According to this definition I "need" water, because if I don't have it I loose quality and quantity of life, I love my Martin guitar, but I don't really need it - I don't think I would really die without it!

Since the quantity and quality of ones life suffers from long term rejection of God, I would conclude we need Him.

NOTE: what would make us evolve in such a way as to need something that does not exist? We need water because it exists, we need love because it is real, we need God because he exists!

3 - Three will have to wait, I have to leave for a meeting.

IIRs I respect your beliefs (agree or disagree)
What makes me nervious is that in a world that brags about being tolerent, there is great intolorence towards those that hold God in very high regard.

I trust that is not the intention of your quote, but some mostlikely take it that way.

Sorry for rambling (and also sorry for the very poor spelling)

What is more unsettling is that many who claim to be religious in the west show extreme bigotry towards homosexuals, and show an unsettling support for war.

There are people who want Westerners to die and are using convoluted interpretations of religion to justify it.

I'd say bigotry is accptable in one and only one circumnstance: When it is towards a group that has adopted the notion that it is their moral obligation to prevent others from living happy lives.

My statments were not anecdote. Most of my statement was based on several studies and mainly a study that was released about seven years ago witch was the largest study ever done in the US on heath aging and death. I am not at work right now so I don't have access to the exact tittle of the study so you could examine it yourself, but The first of the week I could try to get you the sourse information.

I have no doubt you are enjoying your life. These studies obviously look at averages. Also I could say my grandmother makes the best apple pie, and really believe I have had the best apple pie ever, but in reality I might be missing out entirely, because your grandmother could make apple pies that made my grand mothers apple pie tast like garbage. (I know you could use this same logic on me) My only point is just because any one of us think our life is good, it does not meen it can't be better - infact it is this basic belief that life can be better that drives us on to advancements in science, medicine, polotics, etc.

I did not meen to offend anyone by my statements and I apologige if I did, now I have 10 minutes to be out the door. :?

do you realy think beleafe in the after life as a better place than here wouldent help somone that lost somone thay loved?

i think it would, if i beleaved that it would have been a big help to me

infact that thought was a big help to me when my nanny passed when i was 22 (still love you nan  )

but since then i have lost others that i loved :( that where not as kind as my nanny (well not to every one) in short thay where sinners & i fere thay have gone to a worse place,(hopfully not though) but still it was my faith that helped me keep focus

i'm not saying without it i wouldent have made it through, just without it i might not be the giving type any more

faith is the key to love, without it it is a selfish love

i love my GF to bits, & if there was somone out there better for her that could make her happer than me then i wouldnt wathe best for her NO MATTER THE COST, even though she is the most speshail non famerly member in my lefe

without faith i wouldent give a f**k about anything but me (thats what i beleave) & because of that i call so clamed non beleavers that still give all thay can (like we have a few of on this forem) agnostic

because none of us realy know the truth in the phisical form

any way, what was that someone was saying about a flanger?

:hihi:

hey subz ... i have NO doubt that belief in the afterlife is of benefit when someone who DOES believe loses someone close to them ...

... and as you know im MORE than happy to let those who believe get on with it and will not persecute them for their beliefs ...

... but i also have NO doubt that my lack of belief (or rather my belief in a worldview that doesnt rely on any higher power for its justification) has not affected my ability to cope with the deaths of my loved ones in the past ... believing as i do that death is pretty much the end of it (though if pressed i do have a particular take on survival beyond death) in fact makes it REALLY easy to cope with bereavement ...
