Cheesiest Christmas Song?

I'm not sure if anybody has already mentioned this, but I've actually heard samples from a "Star Wars Christmas" album. And no, that's not a joke. One of the songs is called "Christmas in the stars" sung by C-3PO. Who in the f**k thought of this album and who in the f**k actuallly BOUGHT IT?!!!!??

Mind you, I'm not big on Star Wars, but I'll bet that even if I was, I'd still probably think that that album was shit. Unless of course I was a sci-fi nerd who sits in his mom's basement all day watching sci-fis and reading comic books.

Whuff, what an idea. Back in the 1960s when I was a meer yute (like Timon in TLK) there was a Snoopy (the dog in the comic strip "Peanuts") Christmas song. IIRC it involved Snoopy the World War I Flying Ace and the Red Baron enjoying a holiday truce. I guess that was about the same kind of thing, pre-Star Wars.

IMO, the question should have been: is there something like a not-cheesy Christmas Song? much more challenging.

Yeah, except that unlike the SW Xmas album, that song was a big hit and not a holiday season goes by that I don't actually hear it one place or another.

Ha! I just googled it and found out it was by the Royal Guardsmen, who pulled a #1 hit in Australia out of another song, "Snoopy vs the Red Baron" back in 1967. Actually stayed at #1 in Australia for like 7 weeks. Anyway, the Christmas song by the same group was called Snoopy's Christmas (aka Christmas Bells, Snoopy's Christmas) was listed as #1 Christmas single in 1967, #15 in 1698 and #11 in 1969.

The SW songs somehow don't show up anywhere in the charts

That CD is Plan 9 from Outer Space kind of good. It is by Meco who did the disco Star Wars songs. Also, it is the singing debut of Jon Bongiove (SP?) who later was better known as John Bon Jovi.

The best track is "What can you get a Wookiee for Christmas when he already owns a comb?" A close second are children singing "R2-D2 we wish you a merry Christmas." I think you can still get it from Rhino.

Of course, I'm biased about that song, as you can see from my one previous post.

this has probably been mentioned before, but the only thing cheesier than all these cheesey songs are "hip" remixes of christmas songs. Blech!

Exactly. Which is why this year I want to get Brian Setzer's SECOND collection of holiday hits redone in swing, rockabilly, and the other styles he does so well. Love that cheese. One volume isn't enough.

not really Xmas formated (although some major parts of the libretto is kind of cheesy), but i would recommend Berlioz's L'Enfance du Christ.
