Cheesiest Christmas Song?

Tis the season.
I'm convinced that the cheesiest Christmas song ever recorded is Paul & Linda McCartney's A Wonderful Christmas Time. That synth line sounds like it's played by some 10 year old in the living room with granny patiently smiling and tapping her feet in the background oblivious to the fact that the delay on it is way out of sync with the rest of the song and that the synth preset itself resembles nothing more than the sounds made by Piddles, the flatulent family poodle, after it's eaten a bean burrito someone dropped on the floor.
Oh, so happy.

But isn't it the point of a Christmas song to be cheesy ??
Dunno about the rest of the world but the UK has this sick obsession with the Christmas Number One. It used to be a blatant, all out cheese fest, with some really good songs, but now it's a race between some ringtone, some Irish boy band or the winner of X Factor
Even Oasis have added sleigh bells to their latest single, Let There Be Love in a blatant attempt at securing the number one spot over Yuletide.
Personally, The Darkness' single, Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) a couple of years back was the best attempt in modern times since the heady days of Roy Wood or Slade. Sadly it was held off by Gary Jules "Mad World" (not that I dislike that song).
Still, unless you are female between the ages of 8 & 16, who pays attention to the charts anymore ?

Actually the lyrics aren't like that _at all_. They're more along this line:arke wrote:last christmas, i gave you my heart, and the very next day, you gave it away ... ad nausea. worst song EVAR
"Last christmas, I gevv you my heart, and the very next day, you gevv it away (away)".

I often cite "Wonderful Christmastime" as the worst Christams song there is, and evidence that even the faultless McCartney is not without fault (what a relief).
My favorite Christmas song is "O Holy Night", and I am routinely frustrated by singers who belt it out like it's The Star Spangled Banner. For that matter, I'm frustrated by singers who belt out The Star Spangled Banner!

The best christmas song ever (not what this thread is about, I know) must be "Fairytale Of New York" by The Pogues, and if you think that one is cheesy you're just some kind of tard!Lovesign wrote:But isn't it the point of a Christmas song to be cheesy ??

I like the Run-DMC song...
"It's Christmas time in Hollis Queens. Mom's cookin chicken and collered greens"
and it is somewhat cheezy

Maybe . . . but that still doesn't stop McCartney's crap-o song from stinking to high Vieux Boulogne.Lovesign wrote:But isn't it the point of a Christmas song to be cheesy ??

I think it's a pile of sentimental crap sung by an overated, drunken Irishman who is laughing all the way to the bar because people buy his records thinking he is a genius when all he is is an inebriated git !
The late Ms McColl and the excellent band are the songs only redeeming features.
