I was just about to say something like that...

For now, the name of it is pretty much irrelevant IMO. In case it's gonna be the bees knees, nobody will care about the name. In case it's not, nobody will care either.
I really don't think the VST market is depending a lot on famous names. As long as it's not called "/$$§%$%&§)" almost everything is fine with me.

Personally, I also wouldn't like it to come up with another bunch of more or less wound up similarities to existing amp models. "Gratifier"? Come on, really...
IMO it's about time amp sim makers would come up with either something unique (let's call the high gain channel "ballsy", just for a lame start) or something descriptive... a high gain channel could be called just that, "high gain" - nobody would be confused by that, and, as a possibly positive side effect, nobody would be trying to compare it to the real deal either because the amp sim would be the real deal then.

Just my two cents...
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

That's an interesting notion, Sashca. I'm getting a little tired of "JCM-ifiers", etc.

Well, well.....I see Michael has beaten me to the punch!
I was about to start a ReValver thread meself!! :D I'm one
of the prebeta testers. I was also involved in the development
of the original. All this nonsense about its name is a waste
of thread space IMHO. Amplitube2 looks and sounds different
from the original and I don't recall anyone whinging about
that.

Frankly, having both versions installed right now, I'm glad Michael stuck with ReValverMkII..it suits it and I've grown rather fond of the name. But in any case, as I said...that's just a bunch of nonsense!

ReValverMkII is just that...a VASTLY improved second
generation. It sounds AND feels better than many of the
currently available ampsims...software AND hardware.
I know cuz I own most of 'em. Will I sell my '56 Fender
Vibrolux and only play live thru ReValver? No, probably not
but let's face it that's not really what most of us
use ampsims for. Will I use it all the time in the
studio for direct recording and re-amping!! YES!! In
fact, I already do.

Beta and release stages are still a ways off and there are many new features and modules to be implemented, BUT....ReValver already has some tricks up it's sleeve that NO other ampsim soft OR hard is capable of. Add to this it's great tone and feeling and it's main legacy from the original, that fantastic modularity, and you've got a sim that stands head and shoulders with the big boys....and actually outshines them in some areas!!

Cheers......CL

I think that the first version of Revalver was also widely spread amongst electronic musicians (remember phat planet by leftfield?).

I'd favour to see what would be possible if an ampsim would finally offer some modules FOR electronic musicians (a step sequenced filter for example). I.e. lots of 303 heads looking for the perfect 303 distortion on the software domain and i personally haven't seen it yet...

My 2 cents,
Ronny
aka rktic. demoscener (Farbrausch, Holon, MFX, Still), sound designer, ux-dude, sth @AudioRealism, human synthesizer—not necessarily in that order.

Yeah, I've often wished that 303 emulators would include accurate simulations of JCM900s and FuzzFaces...

DaveSmom wrote:Well, to be honest, some of us old-timers have known of Revalver from back-in-the-day... Other ampsims have come and overshadowed it, sound-wise (in realism)

IMHO to make a success you need to, at the very least, equal your current competitors or better still, beat them. Thus, the need for a completely NEW look
I'm still using it, and I'm getting nice sounds out of some of the combinations - at a pretty low CPU hit. Some combinations DON'T work at all - but I have always liked the option to play around, which Guitar Rig and Amplitube don't quite give you to the same extent - playing it safe.... I'm looking forward to RVMkII - and hope there'll be an upgrade option from RV!

Hm, you are approved. No email? Try log in anyway.
I am beginning to suspect that phpbb do not always send approval emil even though people are approved.

I was meaning : IMO the security system of the software is great ! :hihi: (I'm still wondering why you need such a protection for a crackling demo with a time limit on it)
I even couldn't get the ReValver installed, it crashed my soundcard, my pc and nearly my ears ! I spend an evening on it and half of the morning to get things ok again. (without playing 1 note !)

"I pass" means that I won't try this ... (I wait to name it until I hear what it does) again, until it is stable and more accessible, because I can't give advice on writing software.

PS : No worries for security; I've burned my copy of ReValver ! 8)

Philosophical note : Once someone said : "What's in a name?" I wonder if that fella would have said the same with my experience and knowing the name of ReValver's website. :hihi:
