Yeah I can hear the dry through the distortion too.

Both you guys are getting pretty decent sounds, but you don't explain enough. For instance, when you say "cab", do you mean virtual or hardware? What speaker simulators or other VST's/software are you using? What kind of guitar pickups are you using? Why didn't you give us the custom patches you are using?

One thing though, it sure is nice to run across people into deathy guitar tones, been a while. I produce trance nowdays, but I'm originally a metalhead, still am actually.

for a good and widely usable sound I recommend to put Cortex' 'old cab' after Extremist

Better for sure, although on the Eq'd takes, you didnt use the Extremist EQ right? I also had to EQ the hell out of it to get decent sounds too, (but not the built in eq) becasue it just has too much of the "tone turned down" sound. BUt its all right my biggest complaint with this plug was when I used 4 tracks or probabaly only 2 for the matter. Without Eq'ing it to hell and back, it turns into a mush, And I kept backing off the gain until it just wasnt at all close,and after all the EQ it was just dead, but you got it going pretty good, but it is still to mushy, and the eq'ed version was just that =EQ'ed (all right but the life was getting sucked out of it) although one has to ask couldnt your time be better suited fulfilling your sim?

I mean really, its nice you make this sound all right, but whats your motive? hmmm..

And to Nocturnus, I cant help but think you did not put the SD-1 BEFORE the Jcm 900, If you put it after it wont work, then you are feeding the AMP into the pedal. If you did do it the right way then I guess I just wouldnt understand that NOT being enough gain,, and this is coming from a guy who is all about Hi-gain..

Midiworks were your samples actually all Extremist? or are they your amp, cause they sound eerily similar,, The only one that was for sure was the right channel on the first mp3, (the cabs) Casue I did a quick spectrum capture and loaded it into Voxengo CurveEq and tried matching these sounds, cause I still have that dry take as well. And I know I dont have your settings for Extremist, and Curve Eq will not be perfect, but it has does a good job and I am just not getting this sound form this amp.. Whats the deal?

Yes, they were all Extremist.
That cab take was done with a convolutions cab from
http://www.noisevault.com and the internal EQ of Extremist.
The EQ of the other take, was applied later over the cab version.
(using another VST EQ) That was all.

I agree though, that the sound of Extremist distortion
reminded me too of my amplifier somehow.
Just to see how good or bad the Extremist distortion really is,
I even tried it instead of my distortion engine, inside of my amplifier.
Since I have tried this before with many other distortions just to see and learn,
how they would work within my amplifier.
I have to say that Extremist did the best job by far from all the ones I've tried.
But I experienced the same things that you did.
It was missing definition and clarity quite easy.
Everything can turn into a big mess very quickly.

When something is good or has potential, why not promote it?

well well god diggity-amn. I got a good sound out of this bugger. The cab impulses are the absolute key.. The one I found best for those too get a start with is the cab 5 with the sm57 out of Boogex, ALhtouhg I have version 1.1 so I dont know if that impulse is still there but it was really the only on ethat worked well for me,, And it makes a HUGE difference, I didnt try the cab impulses before casue I really have not used them on other sims with good results, but somehow this cab impulse really took the Digital-sound mostly out of this thing. And EQ alone wasnt getting a good sound either, so the cab Impulse is essential. And also the key is to turn down the gain, although even doing that is pretty subtle, and also the Mid-scoop is very much involved in getting the sound. And I have to eq as well, I personally dont like the Extrmist Eq, I do it for small adjustments, but I use Kjaerhus Golden Eq afterwords, and I can now honestly say it sounds pretty darn good, BUt with that said, there IS NOT a usable way to get a good sound alone in this. As soon as I bypass cab and eq, it sounds like total crap, So this is one of those plugs that can't do the job by itself but does a good job when used with cab impulses and Eq..

Althogh I wil;l say I can not get it to run in MOno on Cubase, I have to create stereo group and route it to there first, Am I missing something to run this thing in MONO?
