Sickle, I tried it yesterday for the first time. It came free (!!) with the latest issue of Computer Music. It seems OK so far. Most of the limitations lies in the number of tracks, insert effects, aux sends, included plugins and so on. The timestretch seems poorer than say Reapers implementation. There is a comparison chart on their website. There is no doubt though that you can make some serious music with it.

You mean the 7bit-automation issue? Yes, it is. Volker said he raised the resolution to 16 bits. As far as he could remember, this took place in v8.2.

Playing with it for a few months by now (well, every now and then). It's ok, but TBH for that purpose you might be better off with REAPER. Definitely simple and light.

Interesting.
There is a huge time lap when I try to open Sonar's mixer view, so much so, I just don't bother with Sonar's mixer anymore and mix everything in the track view, however Samplitude's mixer opens in a flash. What you mention, would surely put me off even more than Sonar's mixer view.
Any more info on this ?

actually, it doesnt just take a long time to open, it takes a long time to move, resize, anything it needs to redraw. This is using 8.31 btw...

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not even slightly interested in using Reaper. I went ahead and grabbed the SE version for the hell of it, and it seems pretty cool, but there's not much in the way of a manual(the built-inhelp file is for Sequoia, wtf), and with no example project files to deconstruct there's not much help there either. VST Automation's either absent or I haven't found it yet, just envelope controls for pan, volume..

I hate it when a cut-down version of something's offered with piss-poor support and help files..A real drag, cause it seems like a really nice program.

yea i agree with you sickle, Magix really stuffed up with their attempt to getting more of the market, im a registered user and the samp forums give a real insight into how bad the manual/new user support is... they have such a great program but they continue to stuff up the new user/potential new user market...

Seriously..It's obviously an awesome program, and I'm more inclined to upgrade than not, but this support system they have in place just totally blows..

Here's another good one: I registered and all that crap, but now I can't log in or even recieve a password email; they say I'm not a registered user at all..

If I have to spend the next 6 months unfucking the application to grok it, there's no way in hell I'm plunking down another $300-500 dollars for an upgrade. I mean, just one single VIP file as a demonstration track would accomplish tons for new users.

Yes, I guess support and help files for that version in English are about as good as German support and help in most American and British music software (exception: Cakewalk, with the added bonus of random French paragraphs

I also have this problem with the CM version of Samplitude 8 SE. Did you find a solution? It's a bit frustrating not to be able to go on the official support forums.

I don't doubt your experience, but let me give you a flip side recent experience.

Recently I had a problem with Samplitude (it was a complicated mixup that was my own fault--and I won't go into it here.)

A member of the Magix management team and one of their longtime customers teamed up to solve my problem. They went *way beyond what most companies would have,* and got me back up and running.

I'm just an average customer. They would have done it for any user.

Now they have loyal customer for life (which I hope is a while, because I'm not getting any younger.

)
