Yeah, KiD is rocking - great job! I didn't realize that a lot of these sounds were in there, downloaded it back a bit ago and didn't make the connection.

Hi all,
Does anyone have any info on how the crash cymbal/effect was created at the start of Abacab? I'd really love to know.

No idea but it sounds like a white noise burst along with the cymbal and through a phaser maybe. Could be from the Prophet 5.andywright67 wrote:Hi all,

Good question. Not sure. It would be fun to collect ALL of the TB Hammond registrations and sample them. I just sampled a bunch of famous ones (and I think I did the Supper's Ready reg just for fun in there) on the B3 that was used on "Born to Be Wild". The Leslie had this incredible GRIT to it AND it was modified so we could sample direct out of it at the same time! That will be coming out later this year.nl3 wrote:Hey Squids,

Next time I go to The Farm to sample the drums with Nick Davis I may sample a few relic instruments too. Possibly Tony's Hammond which I saw sitting around. He might even like some sounds from it himself I would imagine... maybe. He's not as particular about the sounds as everyone else. He's happy with what he gets out of his modern keyboard rig... but he does like to have some of his favorite sounds around anyway so you never know... the big question is what will he be doing musically next anyway? Hmmmm.
If anyone knows of a link with his drawbar settings please post it in here. Maybe a good tribute band has it down. I could sit down and figure it out by ear myself if I had the time but...

Tony's sounds during last Turn It On Again Tour (i was in Rome) were really good...ALL BUT the In The Cage solo sound that was so really ugly, maybe due to Tony's noticeable loss of his wonderful legato playing.
What do you think about?

I actually asked Tony about the lack of legato playing on the solo in "I Know What I Like". I asked him if the staccato thing was on purpose. His answer was curious (npi). He said that it was supposed to be legato! I mean, that it was supposed go "peeeeeow" like the ProSoloist or so he seemed to think. I just bought the live CD and listened and it was how I thought... staccato. So I am not sure sometimes and it is tough to get the answer you want, even face to face! Plus you can't KEEP on asking about it or one could get annoying so... some things remain a mystery! Haha.

Oh, by the way, since this thread keeps popping up... if you're a Genesis fan then you might like Simon Collins' upcoming album which I believe now is coming out in August. It has at least TWO past members of Genesis on it plus Squids. I only play on about half the tracks though and I didn't produce it unfortunately. Although we may do an actual band at some point where we all write and produce together. Simon is putting together his touring band in Canada right now. I'm actually not going but may sit in on some dates in various places. If you live near Vancouver or the Sunshine Coast and play keys you might be able to audition though... I think he has most of the other players together by now. I think the album came out really good. KiD might be a bonus track on it... I hope it will anyway.
That's all for anything Genesis-related. Still waiting for that Gabriel Box Set. Anyone know when that's supposed to be released?

The Musical Box's keyboard player posted a photo with the settings he uses for some songs, including Watcher:Squids wrote:Good question. Not sure. I've translated this in my Brasilian hammond clone (that has a spinet simulation) as
Watcher (intro): UP: 888868446 + reverb (FULL ORGAN TAB)
_______ (verse): UP: 748808000
________________ LW: 007848210 (the lower doesn't have the first two drawbars)
Dancing: UP: 008080800 (CLARINET TAB)
________ UP: 876707000
________ LW: 008700006
________ UP: 888868446 (FULL ORGAN TAB)
Firth: UP: 888868446 (FULL ORGAN TAB)
______ LW: 008808008
Battle: UP: 806807000 + 3rd percussion
_______ LW: 005307006
Now, in Squids, you could trade me the ones you've got figured out... Specially Suppers' that I know you have...
I'm know actually looking to buy a Hammond T series, that in Brazil are really hard to find.[/img]

A Hammond T is the same as a Hammond L and I'm actually picking one up really cheap. I think I have the Supper's Ready drawbar setting written down somewhere and maybe a few others. Slippermen is just the first four drawbars all out I think. I don't mind sharing them. We do have a NEW organ library in the works coming out later this year that is REALLY awesome. It's the B3 that was used on "Born to Be Wild" and it sounds so good. We managed to get both the Leslie and the direct signal at the same time, all the bass pedals and we wrote down the drawbar settings for some famous songs. It will all come in the package. That'll be fun. But that won't be out until later in the year or next year... will take a bit to loop that one but really worth it! I can't wait to play it as samples. Really gutsy tube Leslie with grit. Ken Scott also miked it so that much more "vintage". We recorded it at Matchbox 20's studio so I guess that's the organ their using on their records now. But it has been around for years and been on a lot of stuff I'm sure.
Anyway, thanks for posting the drawbar settings. That'll be fun to play with on my Nord Stage and on this L102 if I pick that up (used to have one but it was in LA and didn't want to move it). I saw Tony's in Genesis' storage. I think he painted it white. I have a picture of it somewhere if you want to see it. Shall I pull out some more Genestorage gear pics?

Have fun with the settings, just be carfull, they don't sound that perfect when on a console organ or console organ simulator (full 96 tonewheels B3s).
The T series is the same as the L series, but the L series have a valve pre amp and the T has a solid state.I found here in Brazil, by chance, a school teacher with a T she wants to sell, but she still hasn't sent me any photos or how much she's asking for it. I'm with my fingers crossed!
A friend of mine has the old Girafe Lamb show DVD and you got really good tones out of that C3, sometimes didn't hear any diferences from a spinet model.
Can't wait to see this hammond library, it should sound great. I'm hoping to buy the sampletron, actually I'm looking into making a keaboard controller that looks like a tron (with stuff from doepfer.de) while running it in a laptop, receptor or the german v-box thing. The sampletron really got me exited because now I can loop the Birotron and the Orchestrons for the Yes moments and not loop the trons. (I might get some string machine samples in there too)
Tony Banks, Farm or Genesis photos are allways welcome, especialy gear! Look it over and send us some more. And also, if you have it writen down, the drawbar settings, that apocalypse has been a pain, never got a setting I liked.
As always, keep up the fantastic work squids!

There was a company making a digital thin Mellotron that looked cool. Not sure if they released it or not. Making your own shouldn't be THAT hard though I suppose. Roger Manning took an old Moog organ/satellite thing (forget what it was called) and gutted it, put in some modern controllers and that's what he used touring with Beck years ago.
I am recording Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun right now with a sitar in the studio btw. Sounds cool! I am doing this really crazy version of it just for fun. I like to just work in the studio recording anything I like really. Always good practice and fun. I also did some SICK Sitar sampling an hour ago to get the notes and licks. We used some unusual mics this time.
Anyway, back to Genesis and organs... the C3 I used at Progfest (that everyone used) was actually Keith Emerson's. Kevin had it. I really thought for The Lamb that it was BEEFIER (especially also going through that Leslie) and that plus a few other UMPH settings on other gear and Nick's playing gave that show an extra edge and punch that wasn't in the original. There's also the LOVE and CONVICTION of us just getting that one chance to play it verses them playing it at a time when they probably weren't that into it... knowing Pete was leaving and all.
Interesting about the T vs the L. I didn't know that. I prefer tube but I guess Tony's was solid state. Interesting. Yeah, I'll dig up some more pics for you guys.
