Am I the only person who likes Iblit?

I'm also big on Hotelsinus Reese Bassline. Capable of some seriously wicked basslines. If you're into DnB or Dubstep, it's worth a look.

I also enjoy de la Mancha's basic. It's a lot of fun and is pretty good for those 8-bit NES sounds.

One Ping Only. So underrated.

+1 for SQ80. It sounds -very- close to the real ESQ-1 and SQ-80, which in return was were designed by the same person that designed the C-64's SID chip.

"Love the sound, dirty and lo-fi digital bliss topped off with analogue roundness, sometimes it does sound very close to a C64, if there was anything like a SID 2.0, this would be it" -youtube comment.

Some of you may appreciate this video:

The same person has quiet a nice collection of other synth performances, and also highlights just how important it can be to edit ones own presets, with passion and attention to detail.

Superb, huge range of sounds possible and it looks great too. Shame that the developer at http://omnitaur.se/ isn't currently accepting donations at the moment because even though it's free it's worth paying for!
I agree. Beautiful sound and very playable.

I'll add Massturbotar also, for the novelty idea.

"Highly extended" is the operative term. While the synths are similar structurally, I think most people would agree there's a pretty wide chasm between them in actual use. We also can't minimize Eric Persing's role in the matter, that guy's a guru.

why?
Someone actually did mention before you. Personally, I think it's quite poor, most of the stock synths that come with today's sequencers are better.

As excellent as the SQ8L is (that's also what I listed as my "can't believe it's not free"), it lacks the rough, gritty character of my real SQ80. Then again, my real SQ80 lacks the rounder, softer character of the SQ8L. ;)

i actually can't believe why any synth is free. imo they should cost always. not that they should cost the world, but by charging a bit for them, one could reduce the overflow of bullcrap stuff a bit, as well as, if the free stuff is good, the dev could be at least be compensated a bit. a nice side effect could be, that the "everything is free" ruining-mentality could finally vanish in favour of the real value of the products.

Better still, if all developers are compensated for their work, maybe they'll have the motivation to do the best work they can and take that work to completion. Again with the Crystal-Omnisphere comparison, they're basically the same thing yet Crystal was never as good sounding, never as intuitive, and never as all-around finished as Omnisphere is.

so we really need an Apple-like App store where you can at least charge a buck for your app. So maybe develop for the ipad he he

yes, who would have imagined that a few hundred thousand dollars could make a synth sound so much better

Actually, if Apple ever implements something like that for Logic, I imagine they might draw a lot of developers away from VST.
