Those where the dayssqigls wrote:...piracy? by that you mean swashbuckling with an eye patch on the high seas? Murdering, raping and blowing holes in boats and swinging on ropes to those boats in order to take things from those boats!!? Maybe abducting people from those boats and torturing them???!!! Making them walk the plank at swordpoint and afterwards drinking cheap home made liquors from oversized jugs and singing together with other swashbucklers, swinging arms in unison at 90 degree angles!!???!!!

Anyway, I thought it was them who use to call themselves pirates, like in Piratebay, you know.
Also, it's refreshing to be called "hypocrite" for being against robbery.

As far as I see there is no-one in this thread defending warez use.
The hypocrite talks were of people considering everyone who has ever even seen a non-legit copy touched by EVIL, while it's very unlikely that someone has been 100% legit their entire life never copying software, movies or music.

see, there was that time when you were ten and you forgot to pay for a bag of sweets, so basically now you have to condone armed robbery or be a hypocrite.standalone wrote:Anyway, I thought it was them who use to call themselves pirates, like in Piratebay, you know.

Do not despair. I will help you to find the flaw in your argument. You claimed that I probably am a warez-user too right?, Lets see:sqigls wrote:Look man, I marvel at Meister Urs's coding the same as ANY geek would/should.
But you are a complete tool Flameboy.
GET OFF THE INTERNET
Yeah! Lets us say I did all right, what would your argument be? That "two wrongs make a right"? Or more like "you are a hypocrite, therefore you must be wrong and therefore piracy is justified?" or just "you are a hypocrite"? The latter might be true but it does not necessarily violate any of my points about using warez.sqigls wrote: ...ehem ... Are you sure you don't have a CD or a DVD in your collection somewhere that might have been copied without written permission from the company, a VCR you might have copied back in the day? Maybe a photocopy of something from a magazine or newspaper somewhere? Yeah I thought so...
So what are you really trying to say apart from making funny pirate jokes? Help me out here

As far as I see, everyone here knows that doing so will get oneshelf banned.sauli wrote:As far as I see there is no-one in this thread defending warez use.

My sales would still be much higher if piracy didn't exist. Unfortunately my protection is good enough to get *some* of them, but certainly not *all* of them.
Urs wrote:One of my softs stops working on certain days when cracked. On these days I have record sales. If I normally sell, say, an average of 3 copies a day, I will sell maybe 15 copies on those days where the crack stops to work. That's more than a 10% increase in sales. The effort put into that scheme was 2 days, which is less than 1% of the overall development work.LXNDR1 wrote:could someone give statistic figures showcasing the outcome of successful piracy combat? specifically the extent to which successful copy protection scheme generate growth in sales if ever

Really? I never did something like that. I'm really not rich. I had to save money for a long time for some software. The Robin Hood argument was always very stupid, really.sauli wrote:As far as I see there is no-one in this thread defending warez use.

OK, I once tried a demo a second time with another e-mail adress because there were some fixes for bugs that annoyed me the first time I tried the demo
BTW: This thread went down the hill a long time ago. Maybe it should be locked.
Cheers

Look dude, I don't think anyone can help you but yourself...
As you said yourself...
I'm not the one accusing people of being a pirate captain
and for that matter suggesting I should be "hanging from the gallow".
All I'm saying is, if whoever is concerned is THAT high on the thought of lynching for binary crimes then I could almost feel sorry for you. All those wasted hours on forums imparting your psychopathic views, when you could have been tweeking plugins.
and on that note, brrrt

Maybe make up a bumper sticker, you could get spelling bee champion whyterabbyt to proof read it for you.IncarnateX wrote: ...I suffer from double standards.
True, but I was only pointing out the facts. And perhaps suggesting a remedy.mcnoone wrote: ...personal attacks, can cause you trouble here, and I don't think you want that kind of trouble.

Man, If you feel guilty enough to accept ownership of the statement then feel free to wear it.standalone wrote:...it's refreshing to be called "hypocrite" for being against robbery.

Various indicators. Here are some:ghettosynth wrote:How do you know that? I'm asking seriously.Urs wrote:Actually, no.Purity Lied wrote:Didn't Urs just say his copy protection was designed exactly with the intention of trapping warez customers and turning them legal?
My sales would still be much higher if piracy didn't exist. Unfortunately my protection is good enough to get *some* of them, but certainly not *all* of them.
* there is a painful drop in sales whenever a crack comes out. This isn't a mystery made up by developers. One can even quantify it by the kind of crack (keygen beats binary crack, crossplatform beats win only)
* there are famous/rich musicians who love my stuff and yet are not customers (recently one was stupid enough to send project files full of Zebras to a producer we know quite well). Thus it's not just "poor people who can't afford it"
* friendly timebombs result in substantial sales increase
* there are more support incidents for non-legit users than for turned-legit users
There's no good reason to think that piracy does not hurt my sales. There's absolutely no indicator that advertisemnt by piracy increaeses my sales more than it decreaeses them in the first place.
