Without question Duende. Not that the Glue is inferior, it's not. In other ways it is a far more useful and versatile compressor than Duende. I also feel the Glue is cleaner.

But when it comes to the general character of each I don't think they are anything alike and you couldn't substitute either one for the other.

Imo of course.
without question the GLUE..

I really mean that not just disputing for sake of it.

$300 + for oNE bus comp? um, if it sounded BEYOND spectacular, then maybe.

But, as i have said before, if the duende is a perfect model of the original hardware, it would simply mean i prefer the glue to the original hardware. The duende one distorts far too easily..the only duende plugin i have never changed my mind about. the others ALL grew on me quite alot particularly drum strip and the ssl channel.

OTher factors.. how do you feel about copy protection? installers? duende has all of that, the glue is just one drop in plug in file. The glue has many adjustable oversampling settings as well as having the option for TRUE *zero* latency.

the glue can external sidechain. The glue adds extra settings. The glue has a wet/dry knob. The glue has a high pass filter so if you are compressing a mix with a very strong kick drum you can avoid having the compression dance to the kick.

The glue owns. My first re purchase when i have some more $$$
The Glue doesn't sound like Duende, so if your after the sound Duende gives there is no choice. Same is true the other way round. Actually they are comparable but to compare them is to miss the point I think, they both offer very different sound.

I really like the Glue, but as long as it's NFR I always hesitate. I'd pick it up just for it's side chaining alone if it weren't NFR. Still might get it one day.

E=MC² you mean?

Pi is infinite.

Don't mean to single you out, I actually see the point you were trying to make :tu:

Just to stay topical. I bought Vertigo VSC-2 for buss compression; still had change to spare over Duende :)
lol, yes E=MC2 and yes I know Pi is infinite but I mean in practical use.

Man, no Duende sale this year, I guess. I have all the plug-ins except the three X-series, and was hoping to maybe add at least one of those. Oh, well.

Okay

Previously I said "without question, Duende" now I will say with Theo, without question, THE GLUE

Here is whats happened, I got a retrial of Duende recently, and I have some ace monitors now (equator audio) so

1. Duende bus comp distorts no matter what. It's not outright distortion, it's some kind of IMD. But it's definitely a degradation the way I hear it

2. Duende totally collapses the stereo image. It is absolutely obvious to me now, especially on spacious stereo mixes

3. The Glue is totally different in how you can apply it to your mixes. It doesn't quite have the snap I liked in Duende, but it's much more versatile and does some really neat things. It can give you brilliant control of your content. It's extremely clean at even just 2x over sampling and preserves your signal. It's A class.

So I got the Glue and not Duende, and saved myself some $200 and got a much better processor.

So with that said, no I don't think Duende is worth it at all. Most of the rest of the Duende stuff has much better equivalents now.

Just for kicks, try the ridiculous 64x oversampling of The Glue. You set it by right clicking at the preset bar thing.. go to the oversampling menu and render something at 64 times.

It's ridiculous how smooth and properly snappy it gets at these high oversampling levels. It's especially noticeable at higher compression settings.. when you properly smash something.

This ability to go way overboard with oversampling is great in my opinion and adds a lot of value to The Glue.

The only thing I'm missing is a dual-mono and variable stereolinked modes. In Reaper you can very easily set this up though.

Cheers!

Totally different compressors, I own and use both, and if I had to sell one I'd sell neither :)

I love the Duende because it comes with the channel strip which I use every day. I've never heard the SSL Duende compressor distort when used with good gain staging, and it sounds amazing.

The Glue is completely underpriced, and the wet/dry knob alone is worth the meager $99.

Answer = buy both.

Thanks I will try that out!

Didn't I read somewhere that Andy still has ideas to further expand what the Glue can do?

He said that maybe in the future he will do the non-linearities.

edit: ooops - narco-thread - sorry

i've had the Duende demo for a few days.

outside some Studio One 3.2.3 crashing with Duende (finally got S1 v3.01 to work)...

Duende is absolutely stunning.

i have been using it with Slate's VCC E channel.

so now, it's simply Duende channel and bus comp. i find myself needing nothing more for EQ and comp.

and believe me, i went through the Waves bug - i have plenty to choose from.

for my day to day personal funk projects, it's EXTREMELY valuable to have such a simple FX chain.

i use Aether reverb, S-Gear and Two Note Wall of Sound III cab sim for processing.

that's it. any more than that for me at this point, is just dicking around.

exactly this ! i would recommend to try out the demo and listen for yourself

as for reverbs my all time favorites and go-to are Valhalla and X-Verb

Too expensive... Duende Native Essentials Bundle (407 euros, WTF?!).

I'm good with IK Bus Compressor + Sly-Fi Axis / TDR SlickEQ + Satson
Optimal number of audio plugins is one more than you currently have.

X-verb is still up there with the best newer plugins, it has a hardware vibe to it's sound, more like a vintage Lexicon but with it's own signature sound and a detail editing features. I like it for a bigger, lush and darker reverb. The sound is like somewhere between the Exponential and a darker, more bold sounding PCM Native.

No....

Way overpriced and sound quality not there by 2017 standards. Can't hold a candle to something like Acustica Sand. Only reason to get it is I'd you like the idea of SSL behind this product. Better latency and CPU usage versus Sand however.

For what it's worth you can cop a petty good Ssl sound with Metric Halo Channel strip plus Waves NLS or Sonimus Satson. The Waves channel compressor is pretty good too.
