@andreas:
:)

thx a lot! I couldn't reach the forum anymore yesterday. I'm impressed with the others as well and wish I could have donated more than right now.

enjoy the sun!

Remember this old thread?

Any word on the sequencer not working in FL Studio problem?

Post

Andreas, have you addressed the global pitch problem defaulting to -100 when you reopen it in a Host song?
Problem happens for me in Orion, and not sure what other Hosts people are using that experience this problem as well?

If it's fixable with a donation, please let us know! :)

Post

I have that problem (pitch settings incorrect when re-opening projects) in AudioMulch, as well. It's the only thing keeping me from using this dream machine. :(

Hi guys,
just to let u know there will be a new release of
slifty pretty soon , can't promise when exactly though....
But, what i CAN promise is that the "doesnt remember global pitch" problem will be fixed :)

how does one save work in slifty and export to multitracker? i find no export to .wav, and the "buffer recording" has me perplexed. tried e-mailing the author, no reply. thanks so much!

Nice! I like this but found it nearly impossible to use. Looking forward to trying it again.

exporting /rendering audio is the hosts job.
slifty can't do that by itself.
which host are you using ?
slifty saves all its parameters with the host song. (except for global pitch a.t.m. (bug))
buffer recording has nothing to do with saving or rendering, it offers the possibility to directly sample into slifty from audio input.
hope this helps

andreas, thanks for previous response. i've been working with slifty all morning, and i'm troubleshooting some things. please help here. host is multitrack studio pro plus.

1) slifty has no start/stop or bypass button.
2) i've figured out slifty works as a midi file in host, but then how does one record patterns from slifty into host? it seems to record as midi file, but as slifty has no start/stop or bypass button it is impossible to hear the recorded output from the midi file...it's a jumbled mess as recorded file plays simultaneously with looping slifty.
4) i'm assuming, that even if slifty records to the midi file (and i could figure out a way to start/stop it) i should render this midi file to .wav before i close my host. (i did try this and got recorded master .wav file, but it was a mess as previously recorded midi file was playing out of synch with slifty in vst slot.)
5) i did midi-learn to save work to preset one, however when opening program my preset was not there and hitting the corresponding midi (keyboard) key did nothing.
6) sometimes when i load slifty it does not activate, even when .wav's are loaded in track editor. other times it does respond, with the same .wav's--hit or miss.
7) i figured out the length bars in the sequencer, but division bars has me perplexed. i understand that it "divides" the length bars in some fashion, but what that fashion is, i'm dumbfounded. explain please?

thanks so much in advance for setting me on my way. i've printed your manual, and gone over it as i work...i should add that i HAVE created cool patterns with it, but again, recording probs and no recalled presets are holding me back. paulmo

Whoa Paulmo! Are you sure you're not using AtariST still?

Start/Stop/Bypass should be triggered by your Host when you press Play, Stop, or Mute.

Patterns and .MID files? Yikes, that sounds archaic! :-o Simply plop in your samples to 1-4, then in the Pattern Grid of Slifty, Trigger them like you would making a beat on a Tr-808/909 beatbox, or drum sampler with a row of buttons to plot your beat (I'm sure you've got one of these?)

Saving to .MID and all? Aside from the few bugs Andreas still has to iron out, hopefully your Host can simply Stream the audio to .WAV? I use Orion, and if I get a good weird loop on Slifty, I simply SOLO it's channel, and Stream from measure 1 to 4, and make a note of the BPM I'm using. Then in a Sample Editor like Audacity or WaveLab, I simply Normalise, and fix up the sample and loop it to say 124BPM smoothly. Then when I go back to Orion, just plop this sample loop of Slifty to a Audio Track 4 times for the intro or something, and fade it out or in or whatever.

Presets - again, depending on your Host, you might be able to save patterns on it, or Slifty? I'm not to trusting of the presets either. Not sure if it's conflicts and/or bugs between Slifty and say Orion, but I rarely get patterns back the way I had them before too? Maybe I'm not saving them, or doing the presets properly as well? It would be nice if it was reliable 'across the board' and/or Andreas could make a little manual for us to follow in future in case conflicts do arise or something?

Division Bars - I'll just say it's kind of a 'slicer in the measure' for now. You could chop up one track of Slifty at a faster rate of say 32, while the second track is at 16, and the 3rd at 8 and so on.
Andreas can maybe go in deeper than that for you. ;)

Get off the Atari Paul, and get yourself into Cubase - or better yet, Orion Platinum!

Good luck with Slifty, and hope I could help you some atleast?

i don't know what's with the atari blast as i specified i use multitrack studio pro plus. i faintly remember atari as a video game when i was in junior high(?)

also as i specified, slifty does not load as a .wav file in my host, else that would be great, to record the output of slifty into .wav. would sort of be the same concept i use with tu2 or hotstepper or hammerhead in creating a .wav (although for that it's exported not integrated in host).

also as i mentioned i'm already loading samples and creating loops in slifty, using all the features/parameters. no prob there.

but your response at least tells me that getting slifty to record directly to a .wav file is the key...so thanks for that. also has got to be midi integration, as midi-learn feature to recall presets (assumedly).

recording to host or saving your user presets are altogether absent from the manual.

as before, andreas if you're around...

Post

IIRC andreas just posted a new version of slifty to the beta-testers list of smartelectronix, so an update should be here quite soon.

paulmo: slifty doesn't know what "midi" is, forget about it :) Also, you need to make sure your host supports VST time info. If it does, slifty will follow the start/stop of your host, and sync to tempo.

Try with some good VST hosts:
