I don't need more compressors right now, but these look like a good deal. Of course I'll grab the free one though sometime in the next couple of days when their server cools down. I can't beleive something free causes so much drama.

I'm excited to see FX get into... well, FX more
As a Geist, Tremor, and now Etch owner, I like their creativity. They took existing categories and gave them a twist that makes those products best-in-class (and I speak largely of Geist and Tremor, since I'm new to Etch). Once their website comes back up, I'll be interested in seeing if they came up with something equally interesting in the overdone space of compressors!
I'm nore apt to be excited by things like Etch from creative companies like FXpansion, but if they are building great compressor tech why not make it available outside of their instruments.
Thanks FXpansion for the freebie, too! Can't complain about that nice surprise (well apparently some people can... sheesh!).

Yeah, that pretty much describes our dev team. It's painful to see these things. Whenever you buy something, you know there's a child or a person living under slave like conditions, starving just so you can get something cheap. In capitalism you decide how you want things with your wallet.
Sure, it's a marketing thing. It's also a nice little compressor for $0. Really there's no secret here!
What would you do with a toaster you bought in a sale, but is likely to cost you full price to replace? Or a car? Same thing here.. the only difference is that because the cost-of-sale for software is small, the discounts can be - and indeed, have to be, much deeper. 30% off a high value physical item (car, digicam..) gets everyone excited. Software they don't bat an eyelid.Dont get me wrong. I enjoy Etch and BFD Echo a lot. Etch was a no brainer, BFD Echo some 50% price sale. The free compressor sounds really nice.
I would LOVE to hear your logic behind these sales. How do you value your products? If i were to insure them (pretending they're physical), what should i tell the insurance company they're worth? That i got them for half the price but they're actually worth the double?
No. But you can. Buy what you need, when you need it, at the price it's offered at if it's worth it for you. Pay no attention whatsoever to what somebody else paid. The moment you concern yourself with what others are paying, or about the notional dollar value should you decide to sell, or even get excited about a sale, you're playing the game too. Can't you just keep it simple? "This is how much it's worth, this is how much it will cost - always."
This account is dormant, I am no longer employed by FXpansion / ROLI.

Yesterday, I bought a pair of shoes for 14 EUR. The people who made them will be happy with their lot. My feet are happy too.
Now ... what piece of software can you get for 14 EUR that's comparable?
Software is bloody expensive. Footwear on the other hand is ... nvrmnd.

Yeah, tell that to the exploited workers in China, malaysia etc who are often children and are frequently exploited so that you can buy 14 euro sneakers.Aloysius wrote:Yesterday, I bought a pair of shoes for 14 EUR. The people who made them will be happy with their lot. My feet are happy too.
There are lots of them on the iphone app store. I bought reeder for £0.69, and have had many hours of enjoyment out of it.Now ... what piece of software can you get for 14 EUR that's comparable?

Software costs what it costs. If you dont like it, dont buy it. Audio DSP code is expensive because we are selling to a tiny market and it takes lots of training, experience and time to develop.
