all this just imo:

dashw seems targeted at those with no/very few dash vstis, so they can use them all for as long as they like for a nominal fee. Thats a great idea.

Ok, but for those of us who either have all the dash vsti's or at least all of them that we are interested in, dashw doesn't seem the best value - or at least not as good a value as if they owned no dash vstis.

For those people there should either be a lower monthly fee for just soundset access they need/want, or just sell them the soundsets outright from dashsignature. Personally I'd prefer outright purchases.

Yep- your spot on there..

Esp now with the restrictions that "will" be inforced im betting, unless I can somehow get William to see the light by being so BLUNT with him. Or not- but Im trying, and for a good cause....

Folks,
This "was" a sweet deal, before William got unduly and stupidly (IMO) convinced that he had made a mistake by adding no restrictions. And I believe that nearly EVERY one here who owns a Dash product would have at some point or another paid the $29.00 for a months worth of service, at least twice a year. Maybe more. Thats one reason why I got so upset. Not just for me, but everyone would have benefitted from this including Dash Signature. You always will sell more in bulk, at cheaper prices (Look at Walmart's sales figures for last year if you dont believe).

The end result and bottom line(was)for me, and (if i may be so bold) many here, the money involved Vs the sounds we got, IF you already owned the full package as i do. William, IMO could have made a killing by sticking with the no restrictions package deal. Now, well.... I just hope he changes his mind for the rest of you...

Haven't really had a chance to check all 5 pages of this thread so let me ask this up front.I'm only interested in the wavs for DaAlpha. Can I just join for one month and download the waves or has this been outlawed? I would pay for high quality wavs for DaAlpha but am interested in nothing else at DashW.

Post

I believe you can, Teksonik.

Spikey, some time ago, before this thread arose, I realized that WilliamK is a very young man who is learning two things as he goes. He and his partner are learning how to create great software (every VST is better than the one before) and he's also learning the ins and outs of doing business. I believe he's learning by doing. Not every step he takes will succeed; some will fail. DASHw is still a wait-and-see proposition. I'm wishing the best for him, which means I hope he'll will listen to you and others and will take the time to make things right if things need to be righted (I'm not making a judgment on that point). I think he'll grow as time passes.

I think at this point that (for me at least) it would be more straight forward to just have sound sets on sale at DashSignature for a reasonable price,
perhaps with a multi-purchase discount.

All of the Dash synths are priced low enough that purchase is about as cheap as any synth purchase. Anyone that is cautious can still dl the demoes.

There seems to be no clear-cut policy with DashW about what you get or don't get, what limitations there are on downloads, etc. What policy there is is very hard to sort out, as evidenced by all the confusion.

I own daAlpha, Eve and Abstract Guitar, so this is not about being cheap and wanting free mega-downloads. I gladly would have paid for the daAlpha and Eve patches/banks that I downloaded from Dash Workstation just to avoid all this stuff in this thread.

Will I subscribe to DashW after the one month Eve trial? I honestly don't know at this point, things are just too damn mixed up.

I just want the soundset-maker tool for Knaglis :(

William, if new users to the DashW cant download previous releases of previous months that means they can d/l only what is released in that same month they have payed for.
So it is possible that there will be a month in which there wont be many releases so the user wont get a good deal for his money.
About all the current DashSignature costumers, seems you left them in the dust and your deal looks better for new costumers only. Ugly to see such strategy and I'm sure that makes costumers who felt they are 'loyal' and that they support DashSignature feel cheated.
Anyway , why are you going to make this DashSignature synths only ? Wouldn't you attract much more users if you'll make it something like Patch Arena and make presets for other synths too ?
You could aim for a bigger market.
Anyway, I can suggest you this... Think of making 'Credits'... Meaning if a user paid 30$ he'd be able to d/l 30$ worth of releases, Thats mostly for those who own your synths and dont want to rent them.

I may have opened a can of worms by pointing out that people would take advantage of only joining occasionally to get loads of stuff for very little money.

Thing is, after all the excellent and very cheap instruments William and co have given us, i think its shit for people to want to take advantage and screw them out of money.

It seems that DashW is a good idea for people who want to use instruments but not necesarily forever, and for those who want all the extra site features, regular soundsets etc.

I think people shoud try to remember that Dash have given us a lot, in terms of products and quality of service, and we should show a little f**king respect. The yearly subscription is not that much, and i think we all know that we can trust these guys to deliver, they have done so far.

If people don't want to pay for this service then don't, i'm not going to. But its not fair to give them grief just because the service doesn't suit everyone and it can't be taken advantage of.

William and Luigi, I salute you and your great products, and i wish you the best of luck with your new venture.

Don't worry... I think everybody thought about it before you say it

For me, DashW is too expensive.

An other think i don't like. Once you begin using new VSTi from Dashw you cannot stop subscribing or you loose them...
After some time of subscription following the release of a new VSTi, it should be totally unlocked.

This is what i mean Ixox, it doesn't suit you. It doesn't suit me either! But i think some people will like it. I agree about the VSTi thing though, you could subscribe forver and still not actually "own" the VSTi. Hmmm.....There do seem to be holes appearing in the logic of this thing.

I still love these guys though, their bundle of VSTi's is the best thing ever! :D

Phew! I thought i said something to offend you mate! :)

I personally think that the dash lads have set a standard for their products, pricing and support. They could certainly teach other developers a thing or 2, especially some of the companies who treat customers like crap and over-charge.

Admittedly they may not have fine-tuned theis subscription service to perfection yet, but frankly I think they deserve our support.

The thing I find most curious is this:
"Will all DASHsignature products be available here?" Most VST products will, some SoundSets won't. Also, there will be SoundSets released here that won't be released under DASHsignature.
In other words, using DashW, you'll pay $360 a year (or $200 for a yearly discount) to get access to synth bundle which can currently be had for $130, plus some unknown future synths which may or may not be of use, but which will expire when you stop paying, and, one hopes at least $100 worth of soundsets. However you'll still have to pay extra for other sound sets, and if you already own the VSTs, then your initial investment (of up to $400 if bought separately) is nullified.

Frankly, with the (by now almost infamous) sell, then bundle-and-sell-cheaper, then rebundle-and-sell-cheaper-still pricing strategies of Dash, Im wary of this venture because I can almost expect to see DashW close in a year and the whole SoundSet bundle sold off at $100 (or something). Not that I have any wish for Dash to fail, but I do find their marketing and pricing 'behaviours' to be quite dizzying.

I have to say I personally skipped buying the $130 bundle because it covered too much; I dont need a new organ and 3 subtractive synths. Abstract Guitar and Knaglis were the two synths from Dash I was interested in, and I already owned Knaglis. All I'd be interested in from DashW is maybe some Knaglis soundsets, and now the SoundSet creation tool I cant get any other way. And $30 a month is too much to pay on the off-chance that some Knaglis content is available that suits me.

On the other hand, if the subscription were done on a different basis, I'd be more likely to pay a cheaper subscription to get discounts on the SoundSets and/or synths I want (for example, pay $10 a month, get 1 voucher a month, worth $15 off any soundset, multiple vouchers usable at once) be that 'exclusive' subscriber-only content or not.
Oh yeah, and the SoundSet tool for Knaglis :)
